When is the next wave of Americans going to break into the top ranks?

Feels like every year is going to be the "year"

I really miss late 90s / early 2000s tennis

I know you guys aren't awake at 5 am central, but Tsitsipas and Kyrgios are getting their servebot on. Nick just took the 1st in a TB.

This actually happened lol...

@TennisPodcast
It looked like Tsitsipas’ racquet throw after losing the first set clipped his dad on the arm, prompting his mum to yell at him and his dad to retreat from the player bench to safety.

No time soon, unfortunately. We had high hopes for the last wave and are left with Fritzy and Tiafoe. The outlook stateside is substantially bearish

I did mad work on the ping pong table at the fraternity house back in the day.

Last time I played was two summers ago when I won the sibling round robin.

Unlike in real
Tennis, my serve in table tennis is a dependable advantage

Are yall ready for our fantasy lineups. This year we have 5 teams. We are only drafting 3 players per team. The remainder of our lineups will be from the field (we can only use the same guy 3 times as a wildcard).

So here are the squads. Who is winning?

1. Rafa, Berretini, De Minaur
2. Joker, Karen K, Stan the Man
3. Fedsmug, Kevin Anderson, Borna Coric
4. Daniil, Alex, Shapovalov
5. Shitsipants, Thiem, Playboy Grigs

Will have to think about it.

I know for sure if I had #3 I would be hating life.

It's #3's first year. He totally fricked himself.

This Rafa match is interesting. He's clearly not playing his best, but he can't seem to figure out how to attack Nishioka. He's waiting for errors and they're not happening.

ETA: In typical Big 3 fashion he breaks just in time to close it out at 6-4.

If anyone wants to explain to me in simple terms how the ATP cup works, I'd appreciate the explanation. I literally know nothing about it, and haven't been following it at all.

I think it's quite ridiculous that tennis now has 3 team events. The powers that be need to get on the same page and figure something out. This is fairly absurd.

As an fyi, you can figure out the actual overall order that the players were drafted by going down and up the list, snake style and then left to right with the colums.

So, Rafa 1st pick. Shitsy 5th. Thiem 6th, Berretini 10th, Demon 11th, etc.

Also, there is one error in the above list. team 5's 3rd pick was actually Rublev, not playboy grigs. So, team 5 is shitsy, thiem, and Rublev.

Do we find it interesting that Rafa was taken #1 overall? Or expected?

Is Alexander Zverev still good at tennis? Did he warrant the 7th pick?

ATP cup

6 groups with 4 teams each
Max 5 players on a team
2 singles, 1 doubles
Round robin in the group stage
6 group winners advance plus the next best two
From there it's just like an 8-team tourney
All played in Australia

Not a whole lot different than Davis Cup.

Oh 3 sets instead of 5, and ranking points can be earned.

By method of elimination I was trying to figure out your team. Not 3 obviously. #1 is possible but I can't see you taking Berrettini over Shapo. And it's not 2 because Stan is just a bad pick.

From there it's tough because I know you really want to avoid Zverev, but considering what was left at that point, I can see it I guess. Then I look at #5 and it has MV written all over it, but I feel like you would take Felix or another younger player before Grigor. So my guess is 4.

God damnit. I typed all of that before reading this. Now I don't know

5 is my final answer.

It's 50/50 for me. Novak probably a tad better, but Rafa having that RG almost locked in is big.

No and No. I would probably take Shapo or the other Alex in that spot.

Ugh. I didn't see the first point and misread that Shapo was up 1-0. Second point was epic, could have gone either way. I thought Shapo hit an incredible stab return to steal a point at 2-0, but it must have floated two inches long. Shapo then DFs and then gets beat on a great pass. Ugh. 5-0.

Just too difficult for Shapo to get free points on Nole. Seemed like he could hang in ten shots plus, which I think is enough for him against most everybody else, but not Djokovic.
