I'm not real sure honestly, it's quite the logjam in a good way

I don't see us resigning Heyward as much as I wish we would but I just think his price on the open market is gonna be driven too high. FTR, there are many others who are quite confident we are gonna resign him so I could be wrong

I think Holiday will stay through the end of his contract then he and the team will go from there. I doubt he gets another contract as a Cardinal in all honestly if these young guys all pan out (far from a sure thing). So he will retire or go else where at that point

This leaves,

Jay
Bourjos
Pham
Piscotty
Gridchuk

I think we let Jay leave at the next best opportunity (love Jay but this young talent is just too good)

Bourjis will be let go at the next best opportunity. (Great glove/base runner, but that's about it)

Piscotty/Gridchuk get to stay and start, hopefully for a long time

This leaves Pham which is a little interesting. Pham is showing all kinds of talent but you can't forget how injury prone he is and he's already 27. In a perfect world, we resign JHey and go into future years with: Heyward, Pham, Piscotty, Gridchuk. Keep in mind that Piscotty can play 1st against Lefties and give Bubba the night off at times.

As for next year, I think the OF is likely Pham, Holiday, Piscotty, Gridchuk. Not sure about Jay/Bourgos's contract situations but even if they are signed through next year I could see them both traded for spare parts.

All of this is my best guess and is assuming everyone pans out and stays healthy so it's likely completely wrong

If the tying run comes to the plate you seriously have to pull him

Well I'll be damned, he made me eat my words

Also, he walked off the mound like he has a serious case of the Swamp arse

I want to resign Heyward. We'll have Holliday and Perraltas salaries coming off the books after next year. I think what you said about Piscotty is right with him being able to play 1st. With his bat he stays on the field. Id like the outfield to be Piscotty, Grichuk, Heyward. Keep Bourjos for defense and pinch run situations. They're stuck with Holliday for next sure so you limit his PT keeping him healthy and put Piscotty at 1st. We're set at 2B and 3B for the next couple years. I'd consider using Jay, Pham, and Adams as trade candidates for a younger SS of the future, SP, and relief pitching.

I see what you are saying but I disagree about Bubba, I think they see him as the 1B for a long time to come and while I used to be skeptical myself, I agree with them. Plus the situation vs Lefties sets up perfectly with surplus OFs and Piscotty being able to play first.

I agree, use Jay and Pham as bait to get pitching or SS. As far as SS goes, as long as Peralta's number don't crater next year, these other guys continue to produce, and he is somewhat affordable, I could see us resigning Peralta's to a 2 year deal after next year

I'm not saying trade Adams just saying I'd consider it with the surplus of OF. That's all pending on resigning Heyward as well of course. If the NL had a DH it would be a non-issue. I trust the front office to make the right moves. But you can't sign Heyward and keep all those OF for sure. Sadly some have to go.

THATS A WINNER!!!

Did you just mention the DH and the National League in the same sentence?

Honestly we should resign Heyward and trade Adams...Piscotty to 1st base.

This is the perfect lineup

3b Carpenter
RF Heyward
LF Holliday
SS Peralta
1B Piscotty
CF Grichuk
C Molina
2b Wong

or you could also put Piscotty in the 2 hole and Heyward 5 hole for LRLRL
