Wow didn't know about the Tiger Woods thing. It's insane. I hope no one took our guys out after the National Championship last year, that would be really unfair to Ball State.

Yea, I graduated in May and am a TAF member. I have close friends who are minor sport athletes. I don't even know how many times I've committed NCAA violations since May.

Easily 25 times.

I think maurice clarett had a problem also. It was a close relative or his best friend something like that. The person died and tosu said the ncaa would not let them fly him home for the funeral due to it being against ncaa rules.

Wow man well you're really ruining college athletics. I mean come on, you really shouldn't go out and have a drink with your buddies.

Sincerely,

I considered saying something about Clarrett but decided it was too controversial and would jeopardize my point.

All the suggestions are great. Definitely working on incorporating the Clemson and Majerus situations.

No need to stop the suggestions (it's an interesting topic anyway) but just wanted to thank everyone again in case y'all have better things to do at 1am.

Yea, especially since I have a full-time job and can afford to take them out. In fact this summer I went to visit one of them in their hometown and paid for a very nice dinner we went to...

I wish you could use my own story, but since they are still athletes and I'm a "booster"...

ETA: there's another personal story that's even worse than the dinner...but its a personal matter that I'd like to keep off here.

Haha yeah let's not do that. I'm interested in y'alls well-being.

Yeah let's not bring personal matters into all this.

Rick Reilly article from a while back

quote:

It's not an easy job, picking nits this tiny, but nobody is up to the task like the NCAA. Take the time the organization told Aaron Adair, a third baseman at Oklahoma, that the book he'd written about surviving brain cancer meant his amateur career was over.

Im pretty sure the NCAA said that kicker from TT couldnt keep the free rent he won at the halftime contest...which was before he even played football

Saw your edit last night but my laptop died...I was not an NCAA athlete. Just a recent LSU Alum who's a TAF member that has friends on sports teams.

Reading that SI Article from Reilly is so true. I don't think people realize the time and effort these people put into the sport. They practice and go to class, pretty much all they have time for.

Not a chance to get a job, thus the rely on their scholarship money, which if they live off campus isn't much. Thus, I'm always wiling to take them to eat an pay for their food or coffee or whatever when we're out.
