Now that the regular season has ended and the playoffs are about to begin, Peabody Coach Charles Smith is poised to break the All Time State Record for wins in Basketball currently held by the late Joel Hawkins.
The current record is 1071 and Coach Smith is currently sitting on a record of 1069-184. A second round victory would tie the record and a Quarterfinal victory would secure the record. Peabody does play a Hall of Fame Game on Saturday against ASH but it will not count towards records.
Peabody should be the #1 seed in 4A when the brackets are released next week, with a record of 30-3. After the season is over, Coach Smith will also represent Peabody and the state this year in the McDonald's All American Game in Houston as he and his coaching staff will Coach the East Team.

He can enjoy it for a few years until Danny Broussard gets it.

He has to retire first and honestly, most of us thought he'd have retired by now, but he's just kept going. He will call his shot when he's ready, but he's actually widened the gap between he and Danny over the last few years, because they were once neck and neck, but with all due respect, he wasn't promoted to Head Coach until 3 years after Danny started at STM even though Broussard is the younger of the two. Danny will catch him on wins eventually, same cannot be said for win percentage.

His Lab teams used to take us to the woodshed twice a year. RIP

Peabody has been a powerhouse for at least the past 45 years.

Yes, but they have enjoyed advantages that few other schools have.

Everything is set and Coach Smith tied Coach Hawkins on Tuesday night in the win over Carencro, and has the opportunity to break the record at home against McMain on Friday in the quarterfinals. Everyone fully expects it to be packed for such a big night. Hopefully we can pull it off and continue the march to title #9. Here is a link from KALB today with an short interview with Coach Smith:
