Once again, congrats to the Cubbies on being one helluva team. We just couldn't get the job done. Now on to the offseason.....

I intend to update this thread with various news and others should feel free to do the same.

Biggest FA issue I know of is whether we resign Heyward or not, I really really hope we do but I have my doubts as the guy is going to command a LARGE amount of $$$. Also will be interesting to see how we handle Lackey, obviously would love to have him back but I'm not sure we will resign him with our depth

Here's a pretty in depth article about potential moves heading into the offseason: Cards could shake up roster for 2016
Free Agents:

2016 Free Agents (w/ 2015 stats and salaries)

Jason Heyward - $8.3m (547 ABs, .293 Avg, .798 OPS)

Matt Belisle - $3.5m (33.2 IP, 1-1, 2.65 ERA)

Randy Choate - $3m (27.1 IP, 1-0, 4.00 ERA)

Carlos Villanueva - $2m (61 IP, 4-3, 2.95 ERA)

John Lackey - $570,500 (218 IP, 13-10, 2.77 ERA)

Mark Reynolds

my predicitons:

resign: Belisle/Villa
Walks: Jhey ( )/Choate ( )/Lackey/Reynolds

Arbitration-eligible: 1B Matt Adams, CF Peter Bourjos, RHP Steve Cishek, C Tony Cruz, RHP Seth Maness (Super Two eligibility), OF/1B Brandon Moss and RHP Trevor Rosenthal

we will pick up the option on Jaime, we pretty much have to if Lackey leaves for depth purposes especially since no one seems to know whats going on with Marco.

will not pick up Broxton's option

Twitter reports that all coaches have been offered a contract in 2016

QOs made to both Lackey/JHey, will be turned down with the quickness

SP Lance Lynn will miss all of 2016 due to tommy john surgery.......oh and one of his potential replacements, Alex Reyes has been suspended 50 games for smoking pot

peter bourjos was claimed off waivers by the phillies

In news many of us are thrilled to hear we have sign a new backup catcher, Brayan Pena and have traded Tony Cruz to the Royals for a minor league infielder named Jose Martinez

Cards trade Jon Jay and cash considerations to SD for middle infielder Jedd Gyorko.

@ChrisCotillo: Source confirms: Leake to Cardinals done, pending physical. Expectation is that it'll be 5 years, $75M w/ $18M option for '21.

Everything I hear is that Heyward isn't leaving STL.

Beyond that, re-sign Lackey, Piscotty to 1B full time, need another reliever or two, and just get healthy.

The Yankees SBNation said to go after Heyward, they went with 7/175 for the deal. Will be around there. I think he stays in STL for 7/170ish.

The way the market has been I wouldn't be surprised, and I'd be shocked if we went anywhere near that night with him. Just not our style and with all the young OFs we have.....

I'm not really all that pissed. I'm disappointed, but not upset. We had a really good season considering all the setbacks we experienced with injuries to some of our best players.

It's shocking that we won our division and 100 games.

The Cubs were the better team at the end of the season. They were playing their best and we were starting to play our worst. Injuries finally caught up to us.

I'm excited about next year when we return Gritchuk, Piscotty, Carpenter, Wong, Waino, and hopefully a healthy Martinez and Jaime Garcia (although I'm not sure he'll ever recover from his boneheaded play in game 2).

I think they will platoon first with Bubba/Piscotty. When Piscotty isn't on first he will be in the OF. I actually like this plan as we can hide Bubba against lefties

I think Bubba is traded, Moss is the same player and can also play OF.

Also Killz, Garcia is gone, no chance we pick up his 11.5m club option, that's what we'll re-sign Lackey with.

I love Heyward and I think he is the perfect Cardinal in the making in regards to his attitude. He embraces the "Cardinal Way".

However, he's not worth anywhere near $250. That insane talk. Surely that's a joke.

Hell, I don't think he's proven himself to be a $50 million player...yet.

I think he has great potential though!

Yea it truly is amazing they accomplished as much as they did with all the setbacks. Our roster certainly looks loaded for next year but there's always some injuries (not to the extent of this year obviously) and all of these young guys aren't gonna continue to hit at this level but the future is beyond bright no doubt

I don't like Adams. I wish he would go.

I agree with this. With his injury history and flaky personality you are just throwing that money away.

I was unaware his option was that expensive, yea I would be very surprised if that is picked up

As for Bubba, I'm fine with the experiment ending but Mo and Mike are stubborn and I think they like him for whatever reason. Hope I'm wrong, trading him for some bullpen help would be nice

I'd take Lackey over Garcia any day. My father inlaw is a huge STL fan. My inlaws grew up and still live in STL. He's a HUGE Garcia fan and is always riding Garcia's nuts.

Don't get me wrong...Garcia is incredible when he's healthy. But my perception is that he's injured more than he's not. He just can't stay healthy.

I'd rather have a baller on the team like Lackey than someone who is questionable every damn season.

Me too. I don't like his attitude. I don't like his face. I think he's WAY overrated.

I'd rather not see him in a Cards uniform anymore.

How does that even exist?

Absolutely. I'd rather give Marco Gonzalez a shot assuming he's fully recovered, than keep Jaime at that price.

He is just worthless against LHP and started to become very pedestrian against righties.
