Rules favor the offense too much.
both teams need to get the ball in OT.

Also, no reason to have the most flag happy crew doing a playoff game.

I think a 10 minute OT period would be perfect...

The Colts defense allowed the Chargers to convert a 3rd and 12.
The Colts defense committed three penalties for 25 yards.
The Colts defense allowed a 24-yard touchdown run.

Sounds like the problem is with the Colts defense choking, not the rules.

that was really like the saints/bears game last month when orton threw up a lame duck prayer on 3rd and long and the refs bailed him out with a bullshite penalty on the secondary.

The perfect example of this was in the Saints-Bears game. Chicago throws up a prayer on 3rd and 7 and gets in field goal range. Game over. Way to fricking earn it, i have no idea what i would tell my team if i was the coach after that game. "They were better b/c they got the ball first"

it isn't even about getting the ball 1st, the refs can just decide a game with the way the rules are. They never call a receiver for using his hands.

NFL OT rules were designed for the ball being kicked off from a further up.

The Saints secondary is horrible. If you have a 3rd and long, it's smart to try to bait them into a PI call. Blame the Saints for paying minimum wage for a secondary, not the rules.

the NFL OT rules should have been changed when they changed the kickoff rules

i agree, but a PI call on a third down prayer should not decide a game in a fair OT format IMO.

Sounds like somebody lost a wager on the game.

didn't bet on it, its just about the 5th time this year i've seen a game decided on what use to be good old fashioned defense

in a way, the colts brought it on themselves with their complaining about the Patriots

A PI call didn't decide the game. Poor defense decided the game. The officials had to make that call because it's the rules. The Saints player committed the infraction. Goddammit I hate when people blame the refs for poor play.

Again,

Don't let this rare instance where a team actually scored a TD fuel your argument of why NFL OT is good because it sucks. Horribly. The Chargers were going to run it twice and then kick it but Sproles broke it to end the game. But in almost every other instance of NFL OT, it proves smarter and safer for a team to basically kneel on the damn ball when they get to the 25. WOW!!! How exciting!!! Playing for a field goal and not the TD. That's the kind of football I enjoy

Another one is that QBs can bail out of sacks so easily. If there is a back in to block you just need to throw it at their feet?

Refs should be able to make discretionary calls when it's obvious it's a bailout.

Don't get your panties in a wad, the refs decide every game like it or not, there are plenty of bad plays that they don't call in every game. It's just that the OT and how the NFL PI rule allowed them to decide that game so directly.

The Colts had 6 really shitty breaks/bad effort in that OT.

1. On that 2nd down play (2nd play from scrimmage in OT), Freeney took a ridiculously lazy deep rush towards Rivers - if he would have fought through his block he would have gotten there in time to blindside Rivers and cause an easy fumble at the 15.

2. The fact that the refs saw and called defensive holding on the lineman

3. The horrible defensive holding call on the corner on that 3rd down

4. The fumble by Gates was recovered by Gates with 3 Colts all around him and his movement restricted.

5. The accidentaly 15 yard facemask on the run stuff.

6. Let's not forget - calling "heads" and losing the toss.

It's been talked about but never seems to get past that point.
