To me... this means no playing in the spring for the D-III fall sports

ETA: this does impact 2 Louisiana schools... Centenary in Shreveport & Louisiana College in Pineville

ETA2: Division II has made the same decision. No Louisiana schools are D-II

Don’t really see how the small schools could afford it with no fans in the stands. They have hardly any revenue without fans. Why would any company advertise with them if no one sees anything

Revenue for D-III schools isn't about fans or advertising. They make their money off of athletes paying tuition.

Just ridiculous. Never should have canceled March Madness/CWS in the first place.

That set the precedent - should have made it clear that cancelation is never an option.

That I don’t think basketball and baseball seasons should have been canceled? Playing without fans is one thing and can be debated. Cancelation should be a nonstarter.

Baseball and Basketball shouldn't be cancelled when basically every sports league on the planet was shut down

MLB and NBA didn’t cancel they postponed; would have been fine if NCAA had done the same

One of those seasons had not even started yet. The other one you have people debating if their playoffs will be legitimate now because of the layoff. Also those are pro sports. It sucked, but the NCAA made the right decision the end their seasons.

With the basketball tournament all but set and baseball about to go to no fans? You’ve gotta be kidding.

DIII doesn't work the way you think it does. There are no scholarships and no boosters.

Those schools don't rely on athletics for any kind of significant income. They will be fine.

If many athletes go elsewhere because they don't have sports (or sports championships), it will majorly affect the schools' income.

"Due to the COVID-19 pandemic"

Y'know, this doesn't really need to be clarified anymore.

D3 athletes are a different breed. Unlike many D1 athletes, sports aren’t the sole reason they’re in school.

Most of them will stay put and earn their degrees.

You're talking about a 68 team tournament with a dozen sites across many states that didn't all have the same testing supplies at the time. A NBA player tested positive literally right at tip off of his team's game one night, which lead to the shutdown. How fair would it be to a team that had a great season like say Dayton and several of their players tested positive?

And I get the baseball frustration. Alabama was off to a great start and had a chance to make it to Hoover/a NCAA regional for the first time in several years. It was still the right call. Sure you could have delayed it, but who knows how long that was going to be. You didn't know when the MLB draft was going to happen. Many of the players on college teams have lives outside baseball. I'm willing to bet you had a lot of seniors that know their career is over that had job offers that were starting shortly after the season was ending. How are those teams going to be able to play if they lose guys like that? There were too many unknowns.

Cancelling was the right call.
