It's not smart by the NCAA to schedule the wrestling chmpionships during the first weekend of the basketball tournament. They need to bump it ahead 2 weeks or delay it 2 weeks and wrestling would get alot more attention.

Wrestling won't get a lot of casual viewers anyways. And the wrestling head honchos certainly wont want to move out of the way for basketball.

I agree the timing could be better. There are lots of times that espn has bowling on during the weekends. Would also be good to have more wrestling on thoughtout the season.

You think more people would watch wrestling or women's basketball because that shite always seems to be on.

I agree. I feel like people stop on the channel but don't stay past a match.

Can't believe he didnt get two there. Would have made the last exchange much more interesting. His brother didn't make the final? did you see that semi match?

They don't really approach it smartly tbh. Participation rates are increasing but general knowledge and public perception is decreasing.

The final for my entrepreneurial marketing class was to prepare a plan for the Wrestling Hall of Fame to increase foot traffic and increase revenue. It barely gets 7000 visitors a year and has very low revenues.

My plan was for OSU to deed over the football practice fields to allow for parking, a second easier entrance, and possible expansion. The thing I took to the Smiths was to create a 'Hall of Fame National Championship' youth tournament in the summer. Make it an elite level must attend tournament, charge nominal entry fees, host it over a 7-10 day period, bring in HOF'rs to promote it and do coaching clinics to encourage the kids. The empty dorms and student apartments could be used for lodging as there's not many hotels in Stillwater. Sell corporate sponsorships and get a TV contract from one of the cable companies, sell concessions, have the university recruiters there to sell OSU to the parents and youngins.

The fiscal impact of 400 teams with entry fees of $25 per wrestler would bring in the neighborhood of $100K add in the housing fees, ticket sales, broadcast fees, concession sales, signage and sponsorship, could be expected to pull in an additional $350-$500K depending on how good of deals they can negotiate.

9 is a problem but still the sport is cheap. Buy a mat and your good to go. I bet it costs more to cut grass at a school than the cost of a mat.

That's a pretty damn good idea. Youth wrestling is the key to the sport.

Yep I tell everyone you need to make it like soccer for little kids. Just about every little kid plays soccer.

Hard to get kids interested in high school and keep them interested. They will most likely lose to the kids who've been wrestling since elementary and junior high.

Get a successful elementary or middle school program and you got a successful high school program.

I coached an elementary school team. Frustrating, but some were damn good. They are in high school now. Waiting for this one kid to be first medalist in our schools history.

Exactly. That's how the state champion in alabama has won three in a row, great youth program.
