What have you heard about Pence?

Supposedly Bucs looking at him hard?

I like the Wandy trade. Grossman is a nice prospect, but he's not in our top seven/eight guys.

I like his plate discipline, but I question his hit tool.

Owens won't amount to anything. Cain is a ways away and nothing too special.

Where's this Pirates in on Pence talk coming from?

I'm looking and haven't seen anything.

Rosenthal, and various Phils beat-writers are reporting a Hamels 6Yr/137.5M..around 23M Per(2nd highest Pitcher in MLB?) type deal due imminently.

Dodgers nabbed Hanley too.

Magic is trying to put out a winner quickly.

Balked at them asking for Brad Lincoln? Hasn't he been all different kinds of awful whenever he's pitched for the Pirates?

And this Allen Webster cat, never heard of him.

The Phillies have agreed to sign Cole Hamels to a six-year contract extension, ESPN.com's Buster Olney reports. The left-hander will obtain $144MM over six years for an average annual value of $24MM, according to Jon Heyman. He has passed his physcial, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

He's mowing people down so far this season so maybe they something in him. If he's capable of pitching like this out of the pen wouldn't it make sense for the Pirates to deal Hanrahan for an MLB outfielder and a couple of really good prospects?

me neither, read about it last night and not overly excited. He's been god awful this year in AA. He was 18th rd pick that has seen his stock sky-rocket in the low minors.

Mid to upper 90s fastball, average offspeed. Only 22 years old.

If they can toss in a couple other average prospects, similar to the Wandy deal, I'd be happy.

The SP market is drying up fast though, so I'm still holding out hope for Demps and Garza's price to inflate some.

Pirates need another bat before the deadline. The last two days have been a perfect example of what usually happens when Cutch doesn't hit well.

Changing roles for pitchers can make them headcases. But, I am of the opinion that a closer is one of the most overrated roles in baseball. They come and they go so fast, rarely do you get a Mariano Rivera type come along. I guess what I'm saying is that I would trade Hanrahan because I know some team would be duped into giving up an outfielder, but the truth is that the Pirates will keep him because that's actually a stable part of their team right now. And it would be a dick move to move Joel especially now that they're contenders.

Agreed it would be a sticky sale if they gave up one of the pieces who over the past two seasons has really helped get them to this point. Pirates need to be going after Josh Willingham but I bet the Twins want a ton for him considering the way he's mashing the ball.

Giants need to be going after a top bullpen arm. Hector Sanchez (at least before he got hurt) had a lot of potential at C which a lot of teams need. In addition to Posey the Giants are loaded on the farm with catchers and could certainly use Sanchez to get a Perez or Broxton and a right-handed corner OF bat. SF makes a deal with Cleveland or KC before the deadline, IMO.

They do...I read earlier that any team can have Willingham if they're willing to pay for it forever.

Also, Ryan Dempster is a fricking moron:
quote:

During an appearance on 680 The Fan in Atlanta on Wednesday morning, Braves general manager Frank Wren said that the team has "moved on" from a possible trade for Cubs' right-hander Ryan Dempster.

The Cubs and Braves agreed to a deal on Monday that would have send Dempster to Atlanta for 22-year-old right-hander Randall Delgado. However, Dempster has 10-and-5 rights and has yet to approve the deal. Wren now considers a deal "highly unlikely" and said the parameters of a deal expired on Tuesday. While it's a missed opportunity for the Braves, it's also a tough blow for the Cubs, who missed out on a quality prospect and now may have to settle for lesser offers or perhaps even keeping Dempster for the rest of the year.

Wonder if this has more to do with Dempster thinking ATL isn't a contender or him not liking Atlanta as a city or him wanting to play in the spotlight for a big-market team.

One of the main reasons is to play with his buddy Ted Lilly.

His preference is LA. And with that, leverage shifts away from Chicago. He's being a fricking dickwad. The Cubs just went from Randall Delgado, a 22 year old ML ready arm to Allen Webster, a 22 year old in AA with a 4+ ERA.
