I think it was a fan poll on fox sports a year or so ago.

hendo, i like you, but this is embarrassing for your school.. does that really sound like what a University would call their athletic teams? I mean, i know you guys do, but its silly..

I like the name Ragin Cajuns...it's unique...I mean as much as I like LSU...Tigers is pretty generic

but the reason LSU is called the Tigers is unique to LSU, since the mascot didn't come from the animal.

I've heard that the Ragin Cajuns moniker came from a military brigade as well, but I can't find any information.

I don't know the history of their mascot, but I have no problem with it. My only point of contention is the possessive 's on Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns, it should be the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns.

I know the reasoning..and true..it is unique...but you and I know that because we are LSU fans..when you hear it as an outsider..it's just yet another team w/ the Tiger mascot.

Ragin Cajun just stands out.

I can't find any attendance averages for this year. I do know our attendance was down last year but we were still top 30ish.

Hendo, I hope you were making a joke.

Ragin Cajuns comes from a coach in the 50's or 60's that had an ornary group. He called them the Ragin Cajuns and it stuck. Not a great story at all, but a very unique mascot. I was proud to wear it on my chest

I'm sure that does help attendance. But people bring beer into games, I don't think we have any ushers.

Yeah, someone told me it and I didn't believe it which is why I didn't say it definitively. I know about the coach who started calling the team the Ragin Cajuns.

The other Sun Belt teams will catch up in total attendance when they add in their conference tournament totals.
