I think RB is one of those positions where you have to apply the Supreme Court obscenity standard - "I know it when I see it" as opposed to counting stats. And then distinguish by era played, which is obviously a shorter window for RBs.

Matt Forte had 15,000 yards from scrimmage and 75 TDs, which ranks him pretty high on the list. Did anybody think they were watching a HOFer when he played?

But other guys just look the part. I think the metric is or should be:

Best RB of his era: lock
2nd best or best all purpose of his era: probably in
3rd guy on the list is going to need some mojo

Henry is clearly the best of his era and CMac is the best all purpose guy. A few guys fighting for the bronze, including Elliot.
