All the responses in this thread are bullshite. You can go from a $15/hr plant worker to head coach of the flagship university in Louisiana’s football team

I give this warning to almost everyone I come across trying to break into athletics.

Yeah, you aren't kidding.

I went to school wanting to be a sports writer and I did that, but started off as a staff writer.

Eventually became a Sports Editor in a city of about 40K, which included a DII college.

Doing high school and college sports all the time was fun at times, but horrible at others. Nothing like watching D2 college basketball for four hour straight, followed by high school basketball the next day for another four hours, four nights a week. And that included girls basketball. Throw in daily deadlines and parents calling to bitch all the time, it had moments where I wanted to just say frick it. But, I managed to negotiate my salary being hourly, so I logged OT almost every single week aside from the summer. Even with that, I still only made like $45K/year, but it was pretty cheap to live in the place I was at.

Of course I was laid off after four years and got out of it

It was fun and I wouldn't change my decision to at least try and do what I enjoy.
