That's what I've been trying to explain to the MSB. It's a long arse drive to Joe Robbie. It's about as close to Ft Lauderdale as it is to Miami. Which is okay for football which is played once every couple of weeks. It just isn't viable for baseball. Not to mention the joys of parking in the yard, enduring the scorching heat only to get poured on an hour later. Then sit through a three hour rain delay... Seriously why put yourself through all that every day when you can watch on Sun Sports or Fox Sports Florida? That's why this new stadium deal is the only way MLB can exist in S. Florida.

LINK

Why there is so much hope is the fact that South Florida identifies with baseball. Youth baseball programs are popular year round, and the team's TV ratings rank in the top 10.

LINK

quote:

The turnstiles may not reflect it, but the television ratings indeed are showing there is interest in the Marlins in South Florida.

LINK

quote:

The TV ratings for Marlins games were among the highest in all of baseball.

quote:

The Marlins rank near the top in TV ratings every year.

LINK

quote:

Also I would like to point out that the Marlins do have awesome TV Ratings down here.

LINK

quote:

Ballpark figures, however, don't tell the whole story in interest in the ballclub. The Marlins rank in the top 10 of all MLB teams in TV ratings.

LINK

quote:

There's consistent interest in the Marlins, as shown by there very high TV ratings (among the highest of all MLB teams), but the weather and location factors just keep fans out of the ballpark.

Thanks for the info.

I'm sure the players on the field really appreciate all the couch potatoes in Boca Raton.

Yeah since Scotty Olsen joined Washington he's had some very nasty things to say about the Marlins fanbase.

I will say it does seem a bit risky to go into this new stadium venture with tv ratings as the only indicator of the team's interest, I'm remaining hopeful!

and the excuse that weather and location are the reasons keeping fans out of the ballpark. I'm sure Clevelandites would just love to have S.Fla's weather to not use as a crutch to not go to baseball games at the jake for the 1st 2 months of the year...

Miamians sometimes just dont realize how good they really have it compared to %99 of the rest of the country...which is why I really wish that franchise would have been moved to Portland.

ya it was cold up there, but you can do something about cold, when its 95 outside you cant do anything to cool down, and do you kno how many games ive been to that had rain delays,it gets annoying, the fan base in the actual city of miami is huge, but depending on traffic if can take just as long to get to the stadium from south miam as it does from palm beach county, with a stadium in the heart of the city attendance will be huge

c'mon...we all know thats not the reason those fans don't go to games.

..I don't totally blame them either.

Mets, Phillies, even Braves fans (*gasp*) don't seems to mind the heat when their team travels down to play the Marlins and their fans routinely outdraw Marlins fans in that stadium. Just take a look at the series this weekend.

no shite they dont mind, b/c it happens 9 times a year, so of course they are gunna go, and do you live down here, or are you just talking out of your arse about all this, because commute and weather are the reason

commute?

Joe Robbie is a lot more centrally located to the rest of the S Fla megaplex than Little Havana will be. FWIW, I dont think moving the baseball only stadium further south will help attendance issues, imo. You really think people in Broward or Palm Beach counties will want to commute even further south into Miami-Dade county than they already have to go now to just get to Davie?

How many more excuses you got brah?

you do realize how much bigger the population and fan base is in dade than broward and palm beach right, well actually you probably dont, but its at least an hour for most of palm beach, 30-45 for most of broward, and if you live in miami its at least 30, so its not close to anyone, in the middle of miami it will be further for broward and palm beach but the miami fan base which is much larger will be right there, you obviously are ill-informed on the situation so you should probably just stop

...maybe when you guys get a new stadium you'll have security people that know the rules of the game and wont reach out for balls in fair play. Watch your highlights tonight and you'll know what I mean.

That was :charles: right there just now....or are you even watching with your huge ratings and all...

I'm sure that oppressive April South Florida heat that also keeps the fans away got to him.
