Or they read (and cite in their story) the Dallas Morning News and the Austin American-Statesman.

Which is just a giant cover.

Plans? Put your $ where your mouth is

The stadium currently holds over 80K, which bigger than about half the SEC. They have plans to expand it, plans I'd guess would move forward quicker if they move to the SEC.

You would have to add another team as well. Will adding 2 more teams and splitting that between the SEC benefit the league financially?

The idea would is to expand the pie by getting bigger TV contracts, new markets and yes they would have to add at least 1 other team. Clearly the SEC would not even consider expansion if it meant smaller slices (or even same size slices) of the pie.

Link that they have?

Did you see the link in the OP? There are several others if you google it.

It would appear the SEC has not sent a formal, RSVP by this date type of invation to Texas A&M, but they did talk last year and have some informal talks ever since. If the SEC is not even considering it, then why hasn't Silve or someone from the SEC come out and said they have no plans to expand at this time? A definative statement from the SEC would end this talk real quick.

yes, their recruiting may enhance somewhat early on, but you are also opening the flood gates for Nick Saban, Les Miles, Gene Chizik, Bobby Petrino, etc to come over and raid the pantry

Those schools already recruit Texas heavily. There is no reason to think adding A&M would mean they would get more Texas players given there will still be scholarship limits. However, it would also open up other areas, like La, where A&M has recruited well in the past to A&M or it may mean they could get Texas guys that went to LSU or Ark, since they can stay home and play in the SEC. Cuts a lot of ways.

The edge for A&M would be with head to head battles with Texas and OU mostly imo.

If/when ATM is added, there will be another from the east added. I would think getting a VaTech, UV, or NCST would expand the TV market up the right coast. Or what about a Louisville or WVU? Will adding a FSU or Miami increase the TV revenue enough? Not sure.

They have national followings.

I could see VT or WVU, maybe NC State.

FSU possible, but I don't think they expand the revenue enough and I've heard they don't want to leave the ACC. Same with clemson.

Louisville and Miami don't bring anything extra.

Miami doesn't have large enough of a follwing (rappers and kids mostly iminating rappers) in the 90's wearing Miami gear =/= a TV audience. Its a small, private school that struggles to sell out home games unless they are on top.

FSU has no more of a "national" following than several existing SEC schools. I think people in La over rate FSU's popularity because in the 90's when LSU sucked and FSU was a powerhouse, lots of La people wore FSU hats/Tshirst etc. That said, they could add to the pie, but probably not enough to justify exapnsion since we already have Florida. If the SEC went to 16 and wanted to add 2 from the West (A&M and say OU or Mizzo) and 2 from the East (Va Tech and ...) FSU would make more sense.
