A truly deserving candidate? LeBron James, of course. He is the MVP.
He's the "most valuable player," but that's not how the voting goes.
That was a great article, btw.

Rose is the clear favorite followed by Nowitzki/Howard. Everyone else can see that yet for some reason you are still dickriding LBJ.
Well I don't think Rose is the clear favorite. I don't think he should win.
I'm just saying that I think he will.

Previous years are irrelevant to this season. Anyone who has followed the NBA knows that no player has put their team on their back like Rose has.

MVP =/= best player.

Peyton Manning should win the MVP every year because he is the best player, right?

Meh. Dirk isn't having his best season and maybe it's because I'm too hard on the guy since I'm a Mavericks fan, but I wouldn't give him the MVP. I said yesterday I'd have him third behind Rose and Howard. Depending on how he does to close out the season I may put him over Howard since Howard really hasn't had any big injuries to deal with.

easy Farva, just explaining what the article was
fwiw I think Rose is MVP too, carried his team like everyone else has said.
However, I wont be shocked if he doesnt win; it doesnt always go the guy who embodies what said award is about.
(in any sport).

He's having an unbelievable season, considering the circumstances. One of his best. He's never shot 50% in his entire career, and he is all the way up at 53% this year. He's just not taking quite as many shots because his minutes are down.

Did u not read my post or that article?
Missing 2 big men, they still are the best defensive and rebounding efficient team in the NBA. Go ahead and give Rose credit for that if u wish. I guess that 43% fg% just carries the team. Career low fg% and career high turnovers FYI.
And I completely agree with everything written in that article linked above. Good stuff.
He's not a top 3 candidate, or at least he certainly shouldn't be.

The defintion of NBA MVP changes from year to year.Jordan should've won it from 88-98,if it was by best player.Shaq and Kobe should have more than they do.Shaq deserved his first year in Miami and Kobe deserved a couple of years in row.Since this is not the case the best definition I can come with is that the MVP typically goes to a guy with a high seeded playoff team, who is arguably a top 5 player in the league that year. Rose fits that bill and with LBJ getting the hate this year, this is how it will be.

He's right there, though. Top 4 or 5 definitely.

You do realize they were without their two big men and best rebounders for a combined 53 games and didn't miss a beat right?
You kept posting this in response to their defensive and rebounding rankings, but it means absolutely nothing. Unless you're trying to give Rose the full credit for their proficiency in those two areas, which doesn't make sense either.

He won the MVP because of his 40-50-90 shooting percentages in 06-07 fwiw.
His shooting from the field has been great this season but his rebounding numbers are down 1.5 a game from 2 years ago.
I can't justify Dirk over Rose at the moment as Rose has done just as much, if not more, with less.

True, I missed it when I looked. But still, 53% is insane.
And his other numbers are down because his minutes are down. He's older, so that happens.
That doesn't mean it's not one of his best seasons of his career.

I'm gonna email Woody Paige and get his take on this. He's actually responded to me a few times.

Well certain people seem to think that a guy who is playing with another top 5 player and a guy who is the top 10 at his position and is doing nothing that exceptional from his norm deserves it over a guy who has literally thrown his team on his back and taken them to at worst a close second in the East despite missing his two best teammates.
And yes I am giving Rose credit for Chicago's defensive play. Last I checked, the guy is one of the best defensive point guards in the league and if you are seriously implying that he has no little to no impact on that, then you really have no part in this discussion.

Rose is a pretty good defender at best. Tom Thibodeau is the guy who crafted Boston's title winning defense, and he's the guy who took Chicago from 21st in defensive efficiency last season to 1st this year. Rose didn't suddenly become the best defender in the NBA. It's coaching and team effort.

It's a crime Dirk didn't win the MVP in 2006.
Dirk from 2005-2007 was so fricking good. Should have won 2 MVPs in that span.
