Cycling: Remco injured in crash while training

Just a press release saying he was injured on a training ride. Fractured rib, shoulder blade, hand. He collided with a postal vehicle. In Belgium.
I don't know how this may affect him for next season.
He's won La Vuelta and recently talked about doing the Giro and TDF next year. I don't know if these injuries will affect those plans. Previously he said you couldn't do those two and then be in shape for the Olympics. Now that 2025 is not an Olympic year, he wants to do both.

Not exactly ideal for base season. Will probably be back on the trainer in 3 weeks

Remco now has 3 bad incidents in 5 or 6 years. Not ideal, to say the least. At least it’s early and might only affect the early season goals.

Had a non displaced rib fracture and scaphoid fracture of my wrist after wiping out in a traffic circle on my TT bike back in May. Think Jan Ulrich TT crash in the rain in 2003.
I was back on the bike in two weeks for easy riding, had a soft cast for the wrist and used that to brace my weight on the bars.
It was about 4 weeks before I could ride normal with little pain.
If his rib fracture isn’t displaced and no pneumothorax, I can see him on the trainer doing long zone 2 rides in a week with something rigged to keep weight off his wrist and shoulder.
Biggest fear is crashing again if he hits the road before he’s healed.

Needs to go back to Monaco and train instead of Belgium

Remco update
quote:
The comeback starts now. After a scary accident on training yesterday, I underwent surgery last night and everything went well. With a fracture to my rib, shoulder blade, hand, contusions to my lungs and a dislocation of my right clavicle which has caused all surrounding ligaments to be torn, it's going to be a long journey but I’m fully focused on my recovery and I’m determined to come back stronger, step by step. I’m very grateful for all the help and support I received the last 24 hours. From the emergency services, the neighbours that helped me in the first moment, the medical teams in Anderlecht and Herentals and our team doctor Phil Jansen. Also a special mention for my wife, my family for standing by me in these difficult moments and to everyone for their supportive messages. I also want to express my support to the woman who was involved in the accident.
