Wisconsin will be in good hands with Gard. I can't imagine Tony Bennett leaving UVA to come to Wisconsin. The "home town" thing is kind of played out.

But Gard's father was diagnosed with cancer and eventually passed away in October. Ryan thought it wouldn't be right to have him take over the program at that point in his life.
This is something that completely slipped my mind when posting. Thanks for pointing it out.

Also, Frank Kaminsky wrote a letter about Bo's retirement: LINK

If this isn't health related, it's chickenshit.

Resigning mid-season as a HC, effective immediately, for no health-related issues is about as chickenshit as it comes.

Bo Ryan wanted to do it prior to the season.
Due to the the health of Greg Gard's father, however, and the frequent traveling Gard had to endure for his father, Bo did not want to place the amount of responsibility required of a head coach onto Gard. It was at this point when Bo and Barry Alvarez agreed that the end of the semester would be the best course-of-action.
This has been reported by multiple Wisconsin insiders (i.e. 247) and ESPN.

You do know the guy is 68 years old, yes? He would have retired after the end of last season if not for Gard's father. So nothing chickenshit about it. Everyone knew this was coming. He's had teams that weren't that talented before, but they always improved over the course of the season (for the most part...that team with Breuswitz that flamed out in the first round against Ole Miss notwithstanding).
