Tulane's 14th Recruit: OL Lawrence "L.J." Abrams (Bob Jones HS, Madison, AL; 6-6, 320)
Rivals.com - Lawrence Abrams (3-star; UAB, Auburn, Kentucky, Mich. State, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Penn State, Stanford, Vanderbilt and Tulane)
Times-Picayune: Alabama offensive lineman commits to Tulane
Excerpts:
- "Abrams had other official offers from Alabama-Birmingham, Louisiana Tech and South Alabama."
- "...projects as a tackle at Tulane, although he is ranked No. 67 nationally among the Top 75 offensive guard prospects by Rivals.com."
- "“I feel like he’ll do extremely well at that level, but he’s probably going to need a redshirt year,’’ Brown added. “He needs to get in the weight room and work on his flexibility. His lower body flexibility is an issue."

He seems to be doing a good job for the Greenies.

I have always said, the problem for the Greenies is not enough beef on their lines...Abrams is a step in the right direction...

Agreed.
Tulane's best teams have always suffered from a poor OL and DL.
As we all know, when an offense isn't capable of scoring/staying on the field, an otherwise weak DL is fully exploited.

Glad to see Tulane get a few decent players. I wish they could get the best of the non-LSU players in Louisiana.

Rivals.com: Keeping Hope Alive for Tulane Football
Excerpts:
- "That's where the hope comes in. It's name is the 2009 recruiting class, which is expected to be the best one the Green Wave has seen in years."
- "Not only should it increase the quality depth and pay immediate dividends on special teams - which appear to be obvious benefits - but this class could make an impact at several key positions already."
- "In the past four recruiting classes, the Wave have inked exactly two 3-star players. This year, four 3-stars are already committed."
- "I know it's difficult to come to this site every day and think about Tulane football. But take a look at the bottom of the front page, and the Green Wave sideline and there's plenty of hope to find."

Tulane has received commitments from twins Kendrick and Kendrell Washington.
The brothers from Brenham High School (TX; Class 4A) are projected as cornerbacks.
ESPN - "On the Trail Archive" (FYI: Update also available on members-only Rivals.com)
Brenham Banner-Press: New generation of Cubs set to defend district championship (8/26/08)
Excerpts:
- "Senior Kendrell Washington is expected to be Brenham’s primary quarterback this season, though West has said the Cubs will use multiple signal callers each week."
- "At wingback, the Cubs will utilize Kendrick Washington, Kendrell’s twin brother.
Kendrick Washington has been a tailback for the Cubs each of the past two seasons, but will move to wingback this season in an attempt to get him more opportunities to make plays in the open field.
West said the Cubs want to get Kendrick Washington the ball 10-12 times per game."

I have to admit, you have done an excellent job covering Tulane recruiting.

The real question is, will he ever actually get this team bowl eligible?

AGREED.
It is certainly possible - will Coach Toledo succeed? We'll have to wait and see.
Obviously, it starts with quality recruiting classes.
Not surprisingly, Tulane suffers from a general lack of depth, particularly poor offense/defensive lines.
As a result, key injuries are often devastating.
Tulane's all-time recod in bowl games is: 4-6.
More importantly, Tulane's last bowl game was the 2002 Hawaii Bowl (a 36-28 win over Hawaii led by current NFL players QB J.P. Losman and RB Mewelde Moore).

Tulane needs a gimmick offense. Look at the Hawaii's and Tulsa's of the world. You think that those teams really have access to better players? Nope. Tulane has no excuse. Run a high flying, scoring oriented offense if you wanna become the talk of the town. It amazes me how these mid major teams try and run pro style offenses. It's not going to work. Sure, you may end up a 7-5 Mac or Cusa team like that, but don't expect to go bowling. Most mid majors just dont have the depth to try and be good on both sides of the ball. Offense, offense, offense.

Sidis, inform me. How does Tulanes previous three recruiting classes stack up to this one? What are the odds that Tulane pulls it together next year?
