Duly noted. Thanks for the information.

Honestly, as an LSU homer, it sort of feels wierd to say "Webster is a top 5 CB", without my personal bias having some merit on my statement.

looking at those stats though, webster can make a claim for top 5 for sure. Thanks

I mean is it purely based off of pass break ups? If thats the case I doubt they'd be that high. When corner jams a guy at the line and throws off the route pattern/timing does that count? If the QB fricks up the throw does the DB get credit for that as a forced incompletion?

This stat only applies when you need it in an argument. BTW That was not interference on Woodson last night.

What I love about Winfield is that he looks for the contact. Some corners are good tacklers when they are called on but this guy loves the contact and looks for it. If he was born 6 foot and 250 lbs he might be the best linebacker in the league.

I'm pretty sure it's on incompletions thrown at his reciever when his coverage had something to do with the incompletion.

Like dropped passes or overthrown balls wouldn't count.

The unforced Incompletion stat is basically a drop.

But what constitutes a drop? What constitutes a pass break up? What if they are in zone who's man is whose? What about a team that has a good safety core that can make up for a CBs mistake and limit TDs and yards against?

Too many variables, but it's interesting to look at imo.

That link has Nnamdi the #15 ranked corner in 2008.

Just on that alone I can't take it seriously.

change the season to 2008 look at the comp % it also shows times thrown at.

i the first link. this year Asomugha has 100% comp % but he has only been thrown at 5 times this season. def. a miss leading stat

Greer

Another thing to consider when trying to evaluate corners. If the corner has SUCH tight coverage, that the QB has to go through a 2nd or 3rd progression when decision making, and that .3 seconds of time, due to CB coverage in man-to-man on a #1 WR, leads to a sack, do CBs ever get any credit for that?

pass not thrown. no breakup, no Int, but it can be deemed a "coverage sack". How can that be measured though.

Really not getting how they get there rankings.

Gamble gave up 70 receptions and 3 TDs and he is the #4 CB?

Nnamdi gave up 16 receptions and no TDs and he's at 15?

I havent even seen Cromartie mentioned on anyones list. Didnt he have 10+ INTs or something last year? His regression this year hasn't been THAT bad, huh? he was considered elite 2 years ago

Cromartie

heres a quote about him last season

quote:

And the award for worst starting CB in the NFL goes too… Antonio Cromartie! Cromartie had the worst YPA of any CB with at least 45 attempts, and had the lowest forced incompletion percentage of any CB in the league. Only one CB gave up over 825 yards this season, and that was Cromartie with 980 yards allowed. I think people knew he had a bad season, but I don’t think people understand just how bad it was.

Gamble had a lot more tackles, that seems to play a pretty large role for their rankings.

Not an LSU homer, but I've been preaching Webster since last season.

He was the best CB in the NFC last season and it was a joke he didn't make the Pro Bowl.
