And they clearly were fortunate to do as well as they did considering this year
Except this year they had 16 injuries to different players.

The opposite of fluke teams of course would be the extremely dominant teams.
2001 Miami, 2004 USC, 2005 Texas, 2008 Florida, 2011 Alabama, etc.
2008 ole miss
2011 9-6

Florida comes off more as unimpressive to me than fluky from that year.
Although their record definitely was inflated, indicated by their 4-8 record this year. (7 game dropoff in one year can't be due to sheer talent)

2011 Alabama is one of the flukiest champions of all time in any sport

UConn getting to the Fiesta was weird

2003 Oklahoma was blown out in the big 12 championship by Kansas state then played LSU in the sugar bowl/NC
2004 Oklahoma lost like 55-19 to USC

2004 Oklahoma wasn't really fluky, they solidly dominated the BIg 12, including a shutout of VY led Texas. Jason White/Adrian Peterson dominated that year.
They didn't deserve to get in over Auburn though, but that's a different discussion.

The flukiest aspect of this squad is being a 2 loss champion.
There were no other teams with 1 loss that year that deserved to play in that game. LSU beat the shite out of the #1 team in the country in the BCSNCG.....what is a fluke is a "champion" that didnt win its conference or division AND lost to the team it claims a national title from at HOME...now that's a fricking fluke

Even with the loss that 08 Florida team just blew everyone the frick out... put up videogame numbers against the SEC. 63-5 v UK, 51-21 v LSU, 49-10 v Georgia, 56-6 v LSU... almost every game was over by halftime.
Team was amazingly stacked on both sides of the ball.
2011 Bama maybe wasn't a dominant team, but definitely had a historic defense.

Even if you are a Bama fan OP, not including 2011 in your top 5 discredits your entire thread.

I hate to do this, but Michigan 2011 had a really soft schedule -- beat ND on jump balls and one of the worst OSU teams ever, benefited by not playing in the conference championship (while Michigan State beat Russell Wilson once and fought him to the death in the conference championship game) and somehow beat Va Tech in a snoozer Sugar Bowl. Come to think of it, that Va Tech team had even less business being there.

2008 Florida lost at home to ole miss

Any team that goes from 11-2 to 4-8 probably was lucky to go 11-2, or unlucky to go 4-8... but Florida just looks like shite this year due to the offense which wasn't even that great last year.

one of the teams lost at home and couldn't score a touchdown that day..

AND One of Alabama's championships came from beating a Notre Dame squad that really got beat at home by Stanford...(remember the bullshite call on the goal line stand) Also, 5 SEC teams would have been favored to beat Notre Dame in the national championship game...Should we go into all the other FLUKE championships Alabama claims??

What was so fluky about that 2011 Bama team? Their defense was statistically dominant and their only loss was by a FG in OT to the #2 team in the nation.
They had a really easy schedule but did blow everyone out, allowed 8 PPG and pitched a title game shutout in convincing fashion.
The only fluky aspect to them was making the title game, but Oklahoma State had no business making it in over this team.

Every team needs a degree of luck to win the title but Alabama was pretty damn dominant in their title runs the past 5 years... also keep in mind 3 of the teams on the updated fluke list aren't even national champions, just 2002 Ohio State and 2007 LSU
+ 2009 Iowa/ 2005 UCLA / 2013 Auburn.

We led Georgia by three touchdowns with ten minutes left in the game. If Auburn played them again it would be a massacre.
