Watched him last night against the Rangers. He has a solid bat and seems like a good clubhouse guy. He has history with Seattle so the trade made sense from a few angle for them.

3-years and $120 million Boston gave seems about right to my non-GM brain. Houston could have kept him with a deal like that, instead of a 1-year qualifying offer.
They perhaps could have, but by the time he agreed to the deal with Boston, the Astros had already traded for Paredes. Bregman was still wanting the long term deal at that time. Also, the Astros had offered him 6 years, 156MM which I thought was more than fair

Agreed. What was his hold up with this offer?

I think he wanted another year and more money.
I didn’t want him to leave but Crane just doesn’t play the super long term deal game unless he can get it on the relatively cheap when the guys are still young…I.e. Alvarez.

ther guy talked about was Ryan McMahon who went to NY. He wouldn’t be an upgrade over Correa.
I get you - yeah even todays version of Correa is better than McMahon. If he was the only other option, I get it. The guy the Cubs got from the Twins I would actually say would be an intriguing option, he does not have to power of Correa, but he can play multiple positions and seems maybe to be on the upside.

The problem with Bregman wasnt what he wanted up front, it was the knowledge that you'd have to sign him and pay him on the backhalf of his deal like a top player when he would likely be barely holding on to a lineup spot like Miggy Cabrera or any number of guys who signed huge longterm deals post steroid era.

Willi Castro. Yes, I forgot they were looking at him also. But they did get Ramon Urias who has similar stats and also can play any IF position. They actually got him before the Correa deal went down. He also has a year after this of team control. They initially got him to play third but now with Correa being in the mix, I think he will see a lot of action at 2B as they’re trying to hide Altuve’s defense.

Rumor: Apparently the Nats wanted Matt Shaw, Cade Horton and Owen Caissie in exchange for Gore. Can't blame Jed for not making that move.

No, if that's true you tell them GTFO of here and come back when you're serious.....for a two month rental who runs hot and cold and the cold can last a while?

Gore has two more years of control, but his l last 5 starts were not good. Meanwhile, Horton is 17 2/3 consecutive scoreless after his win today.

This issue with Horton, and Boyd for that matter is can either of them make it to the end of the year? Boyd hasn't pitched over 100 innings since 2019 and Horton, probably never!! This concerns me greatly as we are really starting to regress overall with our starters anyway.
So the thought of those two having to sit or lose effectiveness due to arm fatigue is troubling.
So yes the cost was high - I get it but we really, really had to get good starting pitching at the deadline and we did not and that's gonna be really hard to overcome.
