Exploring hiring a home health aide for my father in law in Florida. Does anyone have a recommendation for a company or agent to contact for workers comp and/or payroll services?

You are looking for someone that can assist in obtaining WC insurance and managing the payroll processing for the aide?

The aide will be an employee.

You could hire a home care agency and pay them for the services and the aide is their employee. saves you the trouble of collecting insurance and taxes yourself. You do get to approve whoever they send which is similar to the interview process.

What length of time are you anticipating needing their service?

The only one we've talked to doesn't work that way, and his Dr isn't thrilled about the agencies. Honestly, everyone thinks he needs to be in a nursing home except him of course, and his wife. So we've found a person with experience but I am insisting it be done legally with all parties protected.

As for how long, well, he's 96 and just had surgery for a broken hip. But he's a fighter. So who knows.

There’s a home health agency which will provide skilled services such as the nurse, therapist, etc. They come in for a visit and leave. Covered by insurance.

Then there are caregiver agencies that do not provide skilled services. They can be hired for longer periods (usually will have a minimum time). Not covered by insurance.

You probably talked to the first. You need to look for the second if you would like to avoid all the headache that you are referring to. Now if you can get someone privately that you trust, then that is probably best of all. But I’m sure a lot of that is done on a cash basis.
