I recently bought a 2016 Tundra from Ft Bend Toyota in Texas. I was satisfied with what they gave me on my trade in and I haggled a bit with the extended warranty which I wanted Bc I'm not accustomed to buying used. I didn't haggle much with the asking price though. I should've read will cover's thread before buying. Oh well.

It in fact does work I used it last summer on the purchase of my new vehicle. Had them come off of MSRP $13,500, less than 2% interest and giving me $6,500 over payoff on my trade. I never knew what the actual "will cover method" was until just now but after reading it that is the exact process that I went through. But it is the perfect strategy.

If you are considering a high trim vehicle, getting a manufacturer's extended warranty (extension of bumper to bumper) can make sense. It not only covers the powertrain for manufacturers who don't provide lifetime coverage, it also covers the more finicky 3rd party electronics stuffed into the higher trims that cost an arm & leg to repair or replace.

Replaced a nav/radio unit and power/heated drivers seat with extended warranty on wife's last car, repair cost would have greatly exceeded the cost of extended warranty. The powertrain is really the least of your worries on today's hi-tech vehicles.
