The builders I brought my plans to wanted around $5,000 for a $300,000 home. This will probably vary but usually isn't extremely high. That will be part of your down payment when you close.

This seems very fair, most I know minimum is 3% unless previous relationship exists

A smaller local builder from Zachary. They owned the lot already. I contacted others from the Central area who were bigger and may be more willing to venture out towards Hammond. Steve Rabalais from Central, Gordon Bradford, Casey Patterson, Gafford Builders. Check some of your local builders too. They were all pretty similar in price and how they operated.
