I do my taxes on Turbo Tax every year mostly due to the fact that I am single and do not have a lot to deduct so I think it's a waste to pay someone to do something that takes me 20 minutes on average. Well, I have to admit I think I may have fricked something up this year. I am in the military living in Florida and have been for 2 years now, however I am still a Louisiana resident. In 2011 my base pay was 3K more than in 2012 due to a bonus I received of 5K that was taxed. I got back 833 from LA and this year I am only getting back 140. I don't see how my LA refund could have dropped off that much if my base pay only was 3K in difference. In turbo tax, I was initially set up as a partial year resident of FL and LA and that gave me 745, but it wouldn't let me file because I had no date to enter that I moved from FL to LA in 2012 because I didn't. Sorry if this is hard to follow but I don't know much about any of the stuff...

You should be filing as a Louisiana resident if your home of record is in Louisiana, but you get to claim an exemption of $30,000 on Sch. E, Code 10E, if you were on active duty and stationed outside of Louisiana for 120 days, or more, during 2012. Your problem may be that your 2011 return was filed incorrectly if you claimed part-year residency.
