If a company had:
3.9B outstanding shares Dec 31, 2021 at $42/sh ($160B market cap)
3.2B outstanding shares Dec 31, 2024 at $67/sh ($214B market cap)
Having made $12B in share buybacks each of 2022, 2023, and 2024 ($36B total).
What is the ROI calculation on $36B?
How do you analyze the relationship of the $36B buybacks, the 0.7B less outstanding shares, and $54B increase in market cap?
How do you assess if buyback ROI beat foregone alternative investment choices?
