I know this sounds stupid from the get go, here’s my situation:

I left a job, rolled my 401k into an IRA to have more options. I’m not liking the growth I’m seeing with them and I’m getting hosed on the monthly fees. I thought i could move this IRA into my new Fidelity 401k that i wouldn’t have to pay fees on as the company manages that but Fidelity will not accept a check directly from another financial institution, the check has to come to me first, then on to Fidelity. From what I understand, this would create a taxable event that i want to avoid. Suggestions?

I'm not sure what sorts of investments you're in (which is what largely determines the growth/performance - not the investment company that you're with), but why not just transfer the money into a Fidelity IRA account, if that's who you want to be with?

Either way, you're just doing a transfer. And that's not a taxable event.
