Question about tax deed acutions

I live in Florida and was considering a bid on a few properties on the deed auction site for my county. I realize there are risks with everything so I'm not expecting this to be a walk in the park. My questions are:
How can I tell if there are other liens on the property? Does this matter or do these auctions come with a free and clear title? If it's a crap shoot, how are the experienced investors protecting themselves?
I assume a title company could provide more information. I also assume that their time and efforts wouldn't be cheap. I cant imagine investors paying a title company to do a title search prior to bidding on a property they very well may not get. It seems like a good portion of them are redeemed and then 100's of other people are bidding on these properties so it seems slim to win a bid.
Any tips from experienced investors would be appreciated. TIA
