Praxair Linde merger

Anyone have any insight on the merger/exchange that happened in 2018?

tax treatment specifically. it looks like a forced exchange.

Simply put, if you owned praxair shares, you have to pay capital gains tax IF your cost basis is lower than what you recwived at the time of the exchange. Pretty sure you can't claim a loss though. And there's some other stipulations about fractional shares.
Find the S-4 for details. I'll look it up if I have a second this weekend.

Yea, but no one received anything, they just got linde shares. It sucks for many, because of the forced exchange.

Many people acquired shares through union carbide/praxair with minimal cost basis. They are having to pay cap gains on something they didnt want to sell.
