Does anyone have any experience using an MVNO cell phone provider (Cricket, Tracfone, etc.)? From the little research I've done, it looks like you could save some serious cash switching from one of the big carriers to an MVNO. I started by looking at Google Fi after hearing about it from a coworker, but now I'm leaning toward Total Wireless which uses Verizon's network. If understand it right, it looks like I can get 2 lines of unlimited talk & text with 15 gbs to split with my wife for $60 a month. We already have Verizon phones that we could switch over. I feel like it's too good to be true.

Total Wireless is the best deal for me -6gb Lte at Walmart and Verizon towers for $35

I’ve probably tried 15 different mvno in last 4 years and I’ve never cancelled total for over a year so it’s the 1st to outperform my expectations.

The only differences between the big 4 and MVNO's are data speeds and customer service. Most MVNO's data speeds are capped at a certain level. It doesn't apear that Total Wireless throttles data anymore though.

Also MVNO customer service isn't always the best (with the exception of Google Fi).

Google Fi is too similar to FreedomPop for me. Uses WiFi calling then switches to sprint. It’s free every month for one gig of data just way too many bugs. My wife has had FreedomPop for 2 years and her bill is $1.99/month for group texts and mms.

Having 2 shitty towers (T-Mobile and sprint) isn’t as good as an mvno with ATT or Verizon imo

Switched over to Total from Verizon and so far so good! I'm going from spending $90 a month for 4 gbs to $58 a month for 15 gbs. I just wish I would have heard about this sooner!!

Ya it can be pretty sweet. I've been with Google Fi for a year now and like it. I travel internationally at least once a year and it worked seamlessly. While buying a SIM card locally is an easy fix, it is a 30 minute process I don't have to deal with any more getting off the plane. And here in Austin, where Google has an office, I think they work hard to make sure it works.

Also, recently my Nexus 5x went to crap for the second time in a year. Their support has been great, this time just going ahead and refunding me the full price I paid a year ago. Have a Pixel 2 on the way.

I've been on Cricket for about 4 years or so now. Well the first year or so was another one that AT&T ran before merging it into Cricket. I've been happy with them. My bill is only $35 a month for all I ever need. Usually get a good signal. Only time I've ever had problems getting a signal has been when traveling out west in sparsely populated areas.
