This is a grim opinion for the outlook of the economy. I know there are mixed signals but the debt question is concerning.

I didn't read anything that mentioned the US stock market outlook. Did I miss something?

The jest of the article is investors should be concerned with the issues ahead of us. Maybe my title is off a bit. I don’t know what investors should do. I suppose the budget and debt issues are separate from the markets

They all play a role.
Japan's debt to GDP is over 200%, but they've proven incredibly resilient. The debt might be a problem in the long run, but right now people will gladly take 30 year treasuries off your hands at 3.15%, so it's hard to take those fears seriously.

We've been running massive deficits since the George W Bush days. It will eventually collapse around us but it might be a while since we have so much borrowing power. We'll either have to grow or tax our way out of it and curtail spending which neither side seems to concerned about.
