I doubt anyone would be honest for what they made. Of course they would say a little more than they actually made.

But I did ask for a lot more than I was previously making to trick them
Got 6 an hour more than I was making at my last job and plenty of overtime coming up
My take home pay is going to be about 220% of what it was before I got laid off

My current job, when I was interviewing, keep asking this question. I finally gave them some high number (not my salary), and they gave me a % raise off of that. They never called my previous employer. Just tell them you want your pay to reflect your degree, experiance, etc.
