If you like your Edward Jones guy tell him to put you in some stocks and quit the mutual funds.
Some I like that are safe and historically good long term holds--WRB, DD, XOM, COF, Y.
WRB and Y are insurance companies. They have good, long term ROE. You just have to ride out the years they pay big loss claims. Both of those have good underwriting profits.
Spend some money on a value line subscription and read up on their recommendations. Cost about $1000 for a year online but that is cheap compared to loaded mutual funds.

I think this is my main thing if I just start using Vanguard...I still don't completely trust myself 100%. I do want advice.
There is no one answer for everyone and there are tons of options. If you put the time in, you likely could build and maintain your own portfolio. If its not something you enjoy, understand and will stick to, going on your own may not be the best idea. I saw a Vanguard produced study that says an Advisors value to performance is between 2 and 3%. Most was derived by having a disciplined process and helping to control emotions. I can believe that for most people since Fear and Greed make most people do the wrong things at the wrong time.
This Study shows some of the impact. To be fair, other studies say this study overestimates the behavior impact. Almost all say its present, the only issue is to what degree. Also, professional advisors can be impacted by this same behavior as well.
If your guy is good, stays in contact with you and provides good insight; I'd use the information in this thread to discuss options with him/her.
Keep in mind the regular posters on this board are "into" the market, if you aren't you may hurt yourself by changing what you are doing. It would be like me visiting a car repair website where mechanics discuss stuff and gaining some insight and going out and taking apart the engine in my car. To them it would be easy and straight forward, but I'd sure mess some shite up trying it myself....
