But what I’m asking is she is carrying a cancer specific policy rather than traditional health insurance? Those are intended to supplement health insurance coverage.

Not really other options. You can run 2 separate types of plans through your company and have you one one plan (highest deductible, max out HSA) and wife and children on different plan (current plan). This would be an option if you often run healthy and would like to have rest of family on better benefit plan.

yea, she has a cancer specific policy that covers any bills/meds/hospital stays associated with a cancer diagnosis... she is also covered on my HD family plan. if i were to get rid of the family plan she would still have the same cancer policy.
