Booked reward by transferring UR points to United. Will fly Lufthansa across the ocean.
Used the Barclay's card to pay the taxes so I could redeem my points to take care of that.
Just booked the flight last night, have to look into hotels now. Probably will pay some out of pocket here due to all the cards I've gotten and wanting to save some of the hotel cards for honeymoon in 2015, but we'll see.
My favorite part of this is my stopover at Dulles to see the in-laws on the same award ticket. Saves us a bundle.

Well - the game has ended for now:
Just received the AmEx PR card and had the CPS card come in last week.
I will get the 40k points off CPS, then start using the PR as the primary card.
I'll keep the Marriott Rewards card and when the annual fee for the CPS fees come due, let them know I don't need the card.
After all the great research, I realized it was time to transition away from the brand specific card to a big boy card. That said, it will be hard to let go of the MR card.
On a side note of interest, my am ex PR card came with a platinum card welcome letter, terms, box, etc. The only reason I knew the card was PR was because of the card - the entire packaging was platinum related.
I am betting that with the recent loss of benefits, the platinum card benefits are rolling down to PR cards and they are coming out with a new structure for platinum......just my guess...but they had to be catching hell for the loss of lounge access.

Is "Amex PR" the gold premier card?
Posted on 2/14/14 at 12:04 pm to BACONisMEATcandy
They call it the gold premier reward card:

The MR card is still good if you're going to be staying in Marriotts. You will get the bonus, and if you already have a shite ton of points, you can buy back your previous years status.
Unfortunately, the devaluation has crushed the value of the points (read HERE)
I am probably going to keep the card for the free night per year, but I am seriously considering changing over to starwood when I travel. I get automatic gold status since I have AMEX Plat

That's a solid card and would be my 1st choice if I didn't travel for work so much

Delta Platinum is increasing their fee from $150 to $195 in May. Anyone know if the Reserve will have an AF increase too?

I love my SPG Amex. I barely use it for the hotels since they give you a 5,000 mile bump on most airlines when you put in 20,000.

You get SPG Gold if you spend $30k on the Amex, but you get auto gold by how?

The wife and I currently have the Southwest Rewards visa. She travels on Southwest 1-2 a month for work and books those flights on the card, so she gets double points there, plus receives the points for the flight. Also, she books her hotels and car rentals with their partners and receives double points on that. I also fly Southwest every once in a while for work and do the same. The last two years, we've hit enough points for her to get A-list preferred and Companion pass(where I fly free whenever I'm with her).
Southwest isn't the best airline, but considering our situation, it's pretty awesome. We didn't pay(used points and companion pass) for a single flight last year and we took trips to Las Vegas twice, San Francisco, San Diego, Virginia, New York, and Orlando.
Once she stops traveling for work and our companion pass runs out, we'll probably look at getting an AMEX. We received the Platinum 100k point offer last year and it was really hard passing that up.

I have HiltonHonors Surpass Amex.
I get Diamond status by using card for over $40k.
I don't fly often.
Diamond status gets me a room usually in difficult dates such as national championship game, LSU games etc.
What would Amex Platinum or Gold get me for free hotels and diamond status?
is SPG gold equivalent? I didn't see a card that allows for status by just using card not staying at hotels.

Southwest points question.
I have the SW Premier Chase card and have satisfied the minimum spend. I'll get 50,000 pts in roughly a week. I also have the CSP with about 49,000 pts on it.
I see that you need 110,000 to get a companion pass on Southwest. If I transfer the 49k on the CSP to my southwest acct would I be in striking distance of getting the companion pass (50 + 49)?
Or do they have to be miles you get from actually travelling and not from credit card bonuses?

The CSP points won't count.

The bonus does count towards the companion pass. This is why people get the personal card AND the business card if they can, since that puts them at 100k or so, and then you need to spend just a little bit on the card to get to the 110,000.
In your case, if you don't get the business card, you're going to have to find a way to make up the difference if you want it.

Two items: one post.
1. I just received an AMEX application in the mail. 100,000 points for spending $3k in 3 months. No brainer. I can do that in two weeks of business travel. However, is it worth the $450? I fly 90% on American. They just dropped the access to the AA Admiral's Club from their program. Will look to see what 100,000 points does or me, but beyond that, I don't see much value to renew a second year.
2. My wife has a U.S. Airways card she seldom uses and every year she gets two companion tickets for $99 each. She is taking the kids up to our place in Utah for some spring break skiing at Park City and to check on her parents. The airlines gouge everyone at spring break, and tickets were $480 each, so she saved $762 on the kid's tickets. Not bad. Her annual fee is $89.

The Platinum? From what people say on here, it comes with an annual $200 airline certificate so that cuts down the fee to $250. If you travel a lot I would assume it's worth it.

quote:Yes. It does come with that and yes I travel a lot. I generally expense $20-$25k a quarter in travel costs.

AA/Citi is also offering 100,000 miles, but for $10k in purchases in three months. Also with an annual $450 fee, but with Admiral's Club included.
Doing the AA/Citi works better for me, but I hate Citi and would have to hold my nose to do this. I've been using a Merrill Lynch Visa for over 15 years with no annual fee, plus I get 1.5% back as points that I can exchange for rewards or CASH at one dollar per point. So, with personal purchases as well as business, I accrue around $2000 a year. To get this card I had to have a portfolio of a minimum of $100k with ML. Not even sure, now that ML is owned by BOA, that this card is available. I may just be grandfathered in.
So you see, the points from both AA/Citi and AMEX look yummy to me, but even with the $200 airline credits or the AC access, the cash I make on ML/Visa is likely a sweeter deal in the long run. I don't know. Opinions?

Got an email from Barclays today saying my TransUnion credit score changed. I had checked all three score just last week. I expected it to go down as I just applied for their card...but it went up 15 points!
:nurse:
Also myFICO emailed my saying my Experian score went up. I did pay off my Discover card statement last week also. Guess the hard pull hasn't been reflected yet.

The increased credit limit reduces your debt utilization ratio and usually counters the negative impact of a credit pull.
I got 4 credit cards last month and my score went up.
