Ya I'm specifically looking at opening checking accounts where funding with CC is not a cash advance. Was reading a blog where there seems to be a current opportunity to do so.
Might just give it a try but it doesn't get much easier than fund with 10k pay it back out.

I am planning on doing this trip via AA and ihg next spring (March) . My points so far, are 100,000 AA miles via US Air, 50,000 amex points so that will get me 150,000 AA points for two round trip flights.
For hotel, my wife has gotten the ihg card, I have too many recent chase apps (chasing companion pass before deciding this trip), so we have two nights for sure, and I will add an ihg card in the next couple of months. My question is, will they let me book the room and then apply a reward Stay after booking? So basically cancel the payed room and book a reward stay? Also, how did you get the over water bungalow at the Tahiti resort? Did you have to pay the $150 upgrade fee per night? Thanks for the

American Express Membership Rewards points cannot be transferred to American Airlines. Sorry to be the bearer of the news.

Yep

I didn't book a IHG property in Tahiti. I booked the Le Meridien using Star points.

Thanks for the help. What would you say is my best option for getting the extra needed 50,000 AA points? Also, if I was to get a 50,000 AA offer, could I gift 25,000 of these to my wife? Thanks for the help.

The Citi AA Platinum card gives 50k points.

So I guess my new plan is to apply for the AA cards for both my wife and I. We will then use both the IHG points (hopefully still has a 70,000 offer in a month) to have 140,000 points. Transfer in 100,000 points to allow for 6 nights + $70 per night for a total cost of $420. I could use a barclay card sign-up (I still have one for me) to offset that.
Any better thoughts?
This would still allow me to do Bora Bora for 6 nights (all my job will allow for now at one time) for a couple hundred dollars before food (I know that is un-Godly expensive).

Yeah, if he pulls it off that is one nice rewards trip.

Do you have the Citi Platinum AA card? I think you can churn those and the spend is only $1k IIRC. Just got one for my wife. In fact, it arrived today.

I only see the 50k after 3k offer. Do you have a 1k link?
Posted on 2/17/15 at 4:51 pm to GeauxTigers777
I think you're right. Looks like I got minimum spends mixed up. It's $3k.

No Problem. Thanks. I broke the initial golden rule of CC rewards in that I started collecting points before deciding on a destination. This has given me a SW companion pass (probable) that I might not gain the value of, and 50,000 AMEX points that I am not sure where I will use.
Good lesson learned for me, but being a novice at this (only a year and a half or so of reward chasing), I have already saved over $15,000 in travel expense (before this potential Tahiti trip). Pretty entertaining and incredible game. Thank you guys for all of your help and input. I visit other forums as well and some different blogs, but you guys provide tons of good info. I will try to contribute more regarding deals I come across, but just wanted to express my appreciation.

I've grown a bit lenient on this rule once you have experience. Mainly due to some British Airways points I was accruing for a trip we couldn't get time off for. If you aren't paying for the points (first year no fee or minimal) and the card doesn't have lifetime bonus restrictions, you kinda might as well rack up some balances for emergencies or spur of the moment things. BA and SW are great for that, and you can (for now) keep going back to the well every 2 years. Also limited opportunity situations like US Airways.
You don't always have 2 years to plan stuff for an award redemption.
The key is to avoid becoming some kind of hoarder paying for points you never use.

I like keeping good points in a bucket. Can and do they devalue at times? Yes, but it's better to have than not when I'm ready to plan the next trip.
Which is just over two weeks away. St Maarten for 8 days beginning two weeks from Friday.

Yup. The devalue issue is only relevant to me with say, Amex and their once per lifetime bonus restrictions or if you are paying for points either via high fee per point sign up bonuses ($400) or via manufactured spend. I really only manufacture towards a redemption generally, not for the hell of it.
If you get a card that you can get again 2 years later, you're going to get a post devaluation bonus so it wouldn't matter.
