I just checked my credit report and found out that I was turned over to a collections agency, Transfinancial in BR. The original bill was $200 from an Urgent Care clinic. They never sent me a bill in the mail and Transfinancial has yet to contact me via phone or mail.

I really need some advice here. I have good credit and this is bringing me down. I am planning to buy a house in the next 6 months to a year and I don't need this getting in the way. Is there any way to get this off my credit report without waiting 7 years.

Go to the clinic first and tell them it was an honest mistake, I never got a bill and then pay it that day. They will either contact transfinancial or remove it themselves.

If that doesn't work and they won't remove it, dispute it with transunion and equifax. They will typically remove it when you tell them you never got a bill. Happens all the time in the medical field. The billing department is the most incompetent employees I've ever seen. And I work in the medical field.

This is probably good advice - a $200 bill isn't worth fighting over and if the OP does fight over it then it quickly becomes not worth anyone's time.

But to the OP - this is why you must never assume anything is paid for. You have to make sure insurance actually does pay. You may not have gotten a bill, but you knew you received treatment right? It's up to you to make sure everything's square.

Yep, agreed.

And collection companies buy debts for pennies on the dollar. They haven't contacted you yet because it's not a money maker for the company or the rep. It's low priority at that amount.

So do you believe there is a good chance the collections agency will remove it from my credit report?

If they don't and I pay it off, will I be safe to get a mortgage even with the negative mark on my credit?

I'd bet you'd be safe over $200. Even if it isn't removed, all you have to do is explain that to the bank that it was a mistake and you never received a bill. Highly doubt they wouldn't give you a mortgage with only a $200 delinquent acct.

I had very similar on my first home purchase. $180 from a hospital visit after an accident. I was riding with someone and their insurance should have handled it but didn't. Loan officer said it's $180, pay it and be done and no issues.
