Has anyone else had a run in with these a**holes? Went to pay for my auto repairs with a check and had it denied! Call my financial ad visor and he said everything was fine on his end. Call Certegy Check Services and that is where the fun began!! They said Certegy Check Services denied me based on a “code 2, which states “although no unpaid check information is on file, Certegy did not have sufficient information available to approve the transaction, or this transaction exceeded a pre-established limit”. Upon telephoning the company they were rude and gave me very vague reasons for my denial. Finally they said my denial was not based off of any concrete information only statistical information. They would not inform me how to fix this problem, but that I could fill out a form with my social security number, bank account and routing numbers, and that I would then maybe not have this problem in the future. I will not relinquish any of that information to them for fear of Identity Theft. So now I will have to pay cash because most credit and debit cards go through this verification process also and because I would not trust some third party with my private information. This just seems like a scam.

this makes almost no sense. But sounds like a scam to me.

Who pays by check anyway?

I don't understand how Certegy Check Services gets involved. The check should just go straight to your bank, who will then tell them if you have enough $ to cover it.

Check service rep said they do not check with you financial institution, that they just use statistical data. Whatever the F**K that is.

Certegy is a check guarantor used by many, if not most, retailers. If your bank does not participate in their network, the check is over a limit established with the retailer, and they do not have sufficient history on you, they cannot and will not "guarantee" your payment.

There is no scheme involved. It's simply risk management by both the retailer and Certegy. It should be noted that the retailer has the ability to override the denial if they so choose, although they are on the hook if the check bounces. Maybe your frustrations would be better directed toward the repair shop, especially if you are a good/repeat customer.

The repair shop did take my check. I feel the way the representative failed to explain what was going on was shady.
