When buying a used car and dealing with all the add on fees, do you see it as a win if you walk out with internet asking price?

Never pay for extra add ons. Should be doc fee, tax, title, license

Pay cash and it’s easy to do away with all that crap and get a much better cost or transparency upfront. Also walk out at least once. They always call.

Also always have another vehicle you’re looking at elsewhere (whether you do or don’t) for the price you’re wanting to talk about with the dealer.

For example, verbalize your budget I’d say $20k (if the vehicle is 22k). I’ve found a couple vehicles within my budget but really prefer this one. Express you really prefer the vehicle in question. Say you need to think about it and talk it over with your wife and that things are tight. Be nice about it. Leave…. They’ll call within 2-3 days, the reiterate you need to stay within your budget. Be nice, but firm enough to not be a pushover or no room to budge. They’ll meet it everytime even if you have to hang up again. Don’t fall for the dealer trying to sell you a lesser vehicle in your budget either. Be firm on what you want. No reason to ‘please’ the dealer. You’re in charge ALWAYS.

It’s much easier to negotiate on both ends if this is a cash deal. For example $15-20/month more doesn’t seem like much for shite you don’t want or can negotiate, but dropping $2000 in a trash can when you don’t have to makes it real.
