Smoke left Paul with a pretty bad team.
He did take some Smoke holdovers mixed in with his recruits and won but the biggest difference on the 09 team was the two football players, Mitchell and Jones that allowed LSU to win that series.

You gotta cross it in meaningless games

No such thing when the aim is a top 8 national seed. All games matter.

A few years ago LSU got the number 8 national seed and went unbeaten in mid week games. One loss might have knocked them out of the number 8 spot.

You're not going to win them all but they all matter.

But you have to experiment with your players...

Absolutely. I take no issue with moving players up and down in the batting order and tweaking the positions.

But it's all being done in games that matter.

I understand these aren't SEC games and the perception is that they're less meaningful but this is LSU we play for national seedings.

Paul has never been afraid to shuffle the lineup. He'll do it in conference play as well.

Every team and coach does this... some are better at it than others... I agree every game matters plus with the talent we have we should never lose a midweek game anyway. IMO...

I swear its like you look for all my posts to see if i mention Miles so you can get on your soapbox with the same crap over and over..... your hate for me shows no bounds.

Im sorry it hurts your heart that Miles left lsu has the most successful coach in lsu history.
I dont change my argument because the person using facts doesnt need a new post. Its a fact that miles is the most successful coach in lsu history. Its a fact he has the highest win % in lsu history.im sorry that hurt your heart.

We as a fan base look ignorant as frick when we try to act like Miles' tenure wasnt a huge success. If miles' tenure sucked then evey tenure in lsu history sucks.

Of course -many of you dont understand baseball-but it is typical, TO PREVENT INJURY, (not that many of you care) for pitchers to have a 90 pitch limit this early in the season.......

If LSU has 20 wins in the SEC or wins the SEC those midweek games are meaningless. Hell they really don't even have to win the SEC. The SEC had 4 national seeds last year. We were 1 of 3 in basically an Omaha atmosphere. We won't be denied for that. The committee looks for bad losses.

it pays off monthly when i get paid.

Its really amazing that you have a problem with facts about miles tenure but have zero problems with opinions that shite on lsu's accomplishments the last 11 years.
Its all about wins and losses until wins and losses dont fit your opinions. Id say your college education is paying off but id be surprised if you had a ged.

To the #1 and #10 teams in the country? That's bad to you? Are you high?

I'm not high. The real question here is, can you read?

When talking about MIDWEEK games we're talking about a very specific type of opponent. Usually an in state team. Losing to Nicholls is a bad loss. I was very specific about what games I was referring too.

Midweek games, for future reference, are games not played on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

So, what impact did this 'horrible' weekend of baseball have on the SEC standings?

Seems to me, playing Top 20 non-conference teams, early in the year, AND letting players/pitchers battle through some adversity is the exact right thing to do.

I remember the "early years" of Skip Bertman when so called fans would ridiculously berate him for pitching a freshman or untested sophomore in a mid week game, and maybe losing to a small school. Funny, but it's similar today... ALL LSU has to do to finish as a National Seed is win 2/3 games in each SEC weekend series...trust me folks, THAT is the real goal/accomplishment.

Get there, be a national seed, host a Regional and Super Regional...put LSU on position to go to the CWS...from there it takes some luck and good fortune to win it...they are all good coaches, players, pitchers, etc...Baseball as they say is "a game of inches".

Give it time. LSU will be favored in every SEC weekend series with the possible exception of @ UF. So, I think an SEC Championship Season is a real possibility.
