hallman's shitshow in 92

I was there. I was in 6th grade. All kinds of Bama fans had the toilet paper roll on a box of tide on sticks.

I began to hate Bama that day and that hatred grows everyday every year.

yeah, i was a senior in 92. only game i went to was the tulane game. at least we beat tulane and state that year...

i've really hated bama since 87. that loss cost us another sec title and a shot at a natty.

Great post. Stovall spoke.to.the GCAC in gulf shores two weeks ago. He said after the game Bear came to him and said he wanted to address the TIGERS in the locker room, saying it was one of the finest defensive efforts ever against him. Stovall politely thanked him but declined, saying, "Coach if I let you do that those boys will want to leave with you."

We have had some excellent speakers the last few years and Coach Stovall was certainly in that same class. He did and outstanding job. Talked about how Dietzel got him to run track with Bernie Moore, who taught him how to run a 9.95 hundred. After that he cut him from the track team and went back to football. Only later did he realize the two had worked together to make him great. Also said Coach Mac was a fiery fellow and would often get on all fours with his hat turned backwards and take on the linemen, telling them he would run them for days if they didn't go full speed.

82 was a good year for stovall. lost two games by a field goal then lost the orange bowl to nebraska by one point. another what if year.

there was a buzz about the 83 season, but the bottom completely fell out and that was it for stovall.

he came in second in the heisman trophy voting and 7 points away from a possible natty. he woulda beat spurrier to the punch as a heisman winner who won a natty with his alma mater.

still an lsu legend and all time great.

Bear died the following spring. He likely knew he was sick at the time and thus he asked to address the team.

I remember that well. The big joke that went around for a while was: did you hear that Bear Bryant beat his wife? He asked her what time it was and she said, "20 to 10". LOL!!!!!

The most amazing thing about this game was that it was broadcast on tape-delay. We were not able to see the broadcast until Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week. Definitely a different era.

I guess it was pay-per-view, if I hadn't had seen that in earlier posts I would have swore Jefferson Pilot.

I had just got married and was living up in McComb, MS at the time. We watched it on regular tv and am positive it wasn't pay-per-view as we didn't have a pot to pee in at the time. The best play was when one of the LSU db's (forget his name) made a one-handed interception that basically sealed it for LSU. I remember Bear saying that night that it was about time for him to hang it up and leave it to the younger guys. He was dead a few months later in January. Bittersweet that was.
