this team usually fails to play to potential.
Sadly, I think this has been true of CLM's LSU team this season, and since 1/9 when all hell first broke loose> It was because of that one game that I didn't bring full-blown "our year" expectations to 2012. And as the season played out and it was clear our offense was going to be a major struggle, any residual expectations I had were rapidly vaporized. I could have choked down the UF loss, but to have Bama beat and let them off the hook with 40 seconds to play was beyond belief bad coaching. And then there was Clemson...

So I have no major expectations for LSU next year. Sure I celebrate the overall 80-something wins in Miles' tenure. But I view the great success during reg season 2011 as the exception and the outlier, in a season by season drift away from elite status that we've seen since 2008.

Well we were expecting to have Chris Faulk at left tackle, preseason i thought was in the top 3 of all left tackles. A dominant LT is a needed to win it all.I also thought we would have the best defensive player in the country with the honey Badger, Also thought our punter was the bes that i had ever seen. Who wouldve thought 2 yr starter Hurst would just quit. Williford at 67 350 gets knocked out for 2 months. thought Mettenberger would be able to get the ball down the field to stop 8-9 man fronts.
Preseason it lookied like this
OL top 5 in nation
Rb's top 3 in nation
Defense- top 5 in nation
Punter/return game 1st in country

What was there not to like Vegas had them and USC at 3-1 to win it all -Bama 5-1 Oregon 9-1

So what was Vegas looking at ?

Looking at the season, do you doubt it would have been much better with a healthy O line?

Bama's success rests on the shoulders of their front big uglies. O line produces runs and passes, which keeps Def fresh and ready to pounce.

Because we had 4 NFL caliber RBs returning, and a QB that wasn't Jefferson or Lee.

But unfortunately we had the same offensive scheme that failed to gain a first down in the first half of the SEC Championship game, and failed to put up a single point in the NC game. And many had hoped with the embarrasment of the NC game, that Miles would see his offense needs to be changed. It didn't, he hasn't changed the offense and he won't change the offense because he sees nothing wrong with it, he's stubborn and hard-headed about this offense.

Maybe a little. But pass protection was poor from game 1. And I don't care how good your O-line is you can't run when the defense stacks 9 in the box. Which is what every defense did against us and Miles still tried running against 9 in the box.
