I realize that wasn't the case for MSU and Auburn. I mean in general terms.

Also, that wasn't the case for most of our losses the last 2 years.

Points given up in losses:

34
41
13
17
31

44
27
38

So in the last 2 years, we're giving up over 30 ppg in losses.

Defense isn't the problem, we'll be fine there.

Our record in 2015 will depend on our QB play. It's that simple.

People put way to much emphasis on the end of the game. The fact of the matter is that our defense did not hold us back.

overall, it did not. but the numbers you lose as proof are tainted as hell. you are quoting numbers based solely on yardage gained or yardage allowed. while these are one tool in measuring an offense or a defense, neither are the holy grail. they are thrown around because they are easy and quick.

our defense, in 2014, was no where near the 8th best in the country. we got butt stomped by auburn and msu and we gave up above avg points against arky and got grinded to death against notre dame.

i'm sorry but it is what it is. while Chavis is a good DC, he has some glaring weaknesses and the rest of the conference (except the aggies) figured it out.

I can accept that the defensive statistics are flawed, but I still stand by the fact that the defense is clearly the better unit.

My next question: why does the OP think the DC who allowed 70pts is going to fix our defensive problems?

Besides his departure and a linebacker named Welter, Chavis had a great run at LSU. We had the best defense in the SEC last year. Our problem was CLM refusing to take incompetent players off the field.

Also in those three years average offensive production in yards and points jumped up dramatically across the board. Part of this is the increase in number of plays despite the attempt to reduce the games in actual time.

Also, the offense in many of these games couldn't get a first down to close the game out.

Just about all the media thinks LSU downgraded at DC. We will all see, but I don't have a problem with Steele at this point.

When is the last time an LSU offense has had a higher rank than the defense? It wasn't 2013. not sure, but I'm thinking maybe 2001 or maybe 2008. I'll leave that to the stat guru's.

Getting away from Xs and Os, The team has had had a killer instinct, as another posted noted 6/11 losses were lost in the last 2 mins?

Off the top of my head:
Arkansas 2015
Auburn 2015
Mississippi St 2015
Alabama 2014

Were effectively non-competitive, minus the MSU attempted comeback, but the damage was done.

These games deserved a serious look at whether LSU was intentionally losing like 1919 Black Sox:

Note Dame 2015
Alabama 2015
Alabama 2012
Ole Miss 2013
Clemson 2012

Hopefully we can close a little better.
