I read some genius on here saying that it would cost millions upon millions to start a haockey team and to fund one. No it wouldn't. The football team had pretty meager beginnings. A hockey team could stand to pay its dues in obscureland for a couple of decades until they get a following.

Unless LSU committed millions of dollars to hockey it'll be a joke at the varsity level. No decent hockey players are going to play at LSU under the obscureland plan.

So what women's sport will you add once you add men's hockey ?

YOu guys are forgetting about Title IX

The easist would be women's varsity hockey. It is a division 1 sport. If you're going to build an ice arean you might as well add women's hockey, but it would face the same disadvantages that the men's hockey would face.

LSU does have a hockey team. We currently play at Leo's IceLand near Cortana. It is an club level intercollegiate sport program. There are over 300 universities that have the club team as their primary hockey team... Penn State for instance. While the incoming AD indicated an interest in looking at it, there is no intention at this time to make it a varsity sport. However, if we build a fan base and interest, who knows? Having "LSU" tied to ice hockey gives it a lot more validity than minor league teams who've come and gone.

All SEC except Auburn and Ole Miss have intercollegiate club programs UT and UGA have had teams for over 20 years (UT is pushing 40 years and went to the final 8 of their national conference). BTW, UA-Huntsville is a varsity team and they are a darn good program.

While we had growing pains like any other teams, check us out this season. We've done a lot with the program. Show some support for all LSU programs - especially ones where we get to challenge our traditional SEC rivals. Season starts October 3rd...
