LSU needs to build a series of statues reflecting the times and greatness of our past players...

Bob Petit first...NBA top 50 all time.

Pistol Pete next...

Maybe a mix of Rudy Macklin, Dwayne Scales, Ricky Blanton, and Don Redden to represent the early 80's...

Then Shaq, Chris Jackson, etc for the late 80's

And the last one for Big Baby, SSwift, etc...

For what it's worth, there is (or used to be) a bronze Heisman Trophy-looking statuette of him displayed in the "Pete Maravich Pass" section of the PMAC. I seem to recall that it sat on the pedestal on the left side of the display case, in the pic below.

I agree that Pistol Pete should get a statue in front of the center that bears his name. Most folks now never saw him play and wouldn't recognize his pic. It is important in order to relate the personage to the name that brought the BB program to LSU and built national fame for the program.

You don't think it should be named for him?

You never saw him play then. Bob Petit, Shaq, and others all had successful NBA careers.

But there wasn't a more innovative and exciting player to watch than Pete.

When is the last time or any time you ever saw the stands packed to see a PRACTICE, a practice of any LSU basketball team. Give up?

When Pistol Pete played.

I saw him play many times. He is why I played the game, and why BB for a time was so popular in Louisiana. You see, then, all the kids wanted to play like Pete.
I still remember his dad threatening to close practice because of the commotion of so many people wanting to see Pete.

Also when everyone shortens the name to the PMac, instead of Pete Maravich, or Maravich center, even frickin radio guys and sports announcers don't bother to say the name.
I bet there are lots of students who don't have a clue what PMac stands for.

Unless you're talking about the foreigners or chicks who are oblivious to LSU athletics I guarantee there's not a lot.

Shaq was the best NBA player to come out of LSU.

Pete was the greatest college basketball player to ever walk the earth.

Legit question. Pete deserves his own statue as well outside the PMAC. Either that or a giant image of pete in a game at LSU on the roof of the PMAC would be awesome to see during aerial coverage of football games, etc.

I'm sorry, Bob Pettit had two NBA MVP awards as well. Still, I'd leave the Shaq statute out there alone for now.

Pistol was probably the second best player in the history of college basketball, behind one Lew Alcindor...and that's more of a 1A and 1B.

Pistol>Pettit.

Statues are dumb. Let's be cool and not jump on this bandwagon.

That is a great question. Pistol Pete deserves a statue and his name on the building. Anybody over 50 would certainly agree with that. He was the greatest College player of all time hence that he is still the all-time leading scorer in the history of College Basketball, without a 3 point line and only playing 3 years as freshman weren't allowed to play varsity in those days. Shaq certainly deserves his statue as well. I say give Bob Petit and Dale Brown one as well. Pistol, Shaq and Pettit are all recognized as top 50 NBA players of all time. Dale is the second winningest Coach in SEC history.

A statue between the ramps would be pretty sweet.
