What assistant coaching hires save O’s job if they had been made following 2019?

Getting rid of Creg seems like a no brainer
Keeping Arranda longer would have been key but also not hiring Pelini and hiring one of the younger guys we interviewed the second time.
Munoz and Callaway seemed like a good choice for OC and PGC or even going get Grimes.
Seems like actually interviewing coaches would have worked but he also interviewed the one see have now so who knows.

Probably could've gotten Barry Odom or Derick Mason

Kendall Briles as OC and Glen Schumann as DC

Odom, Kendal Briles, Grimes, Joe Moorehead, Glenn Schumann would have been interesting. And for positional coaches, anyone but Cregg at OL. Plus promoted some combination of Callaway/Munoz/Mangas after 2019. The positional hires post 2019 have been meh at best. The jury is still out on Brad Davis but the rest he’s hired hasn’t really worked out.

They needed to hire an DC and a PGC that would keep what they had, or else hire from within.
Changing schemes on defense, and hiring a PCG that wasn't known as a passing coach... have caused O to eventually lose his job.

Munoz bombed in his only season at Baylor. And I would not have hired Peetz at all. If he had prior experience calling plays, I'd be a lil more optimistic about the hire.
I would have made Callaway OC. I prolly would have tried harder to get Nielson to be the DC, literally make an offer he couldn't refuse. If that failed I would have continue to check NFL coaches with histories of college coaching and recruiting. Jones prolly would have been 3rd on my NFL coaching list. I'm not so much worried about a bad defense if we're going to be scoring 60+ every game
I think Andre Carter is a good DL coach hire and so is Brad Davis for OL. Carter's recruiting ability needs to be seen more to know how well this hire will turn out tho.

Problem for Ed is that none of the coaches that could have saved him want to work under him.

Callaway should’ve and probably would’ve stayed at LSU. He was well respected by the coaching staff and players, but he should have been moved to PGC or OC. No way in hell he would have worked under a less experienced guy, Peetz, who needed to LEARN play calling. That was just a stupid move in every way.

James Creggs recruiting is what will ultimately be his undoing.
Then the Scott Linehan hire should have been Kendall Briles.
If he had hired a better recruiter at Oline. Hired Kendall Briles at OC after the Brady year then he likely is 5-1 this year.
Pelini was obviously a colossal failure but I think even then he was given a mulligan.
His offensive sputters and atrocious offensive line is what sinks him, imagine if we didn’t have the Covid year snd we didn’t have Shannahan, Ed Ingram and Deculus this year, regardless of what you think of those guys, they’re beating out the backups.
Imagine if we don’t have them. That’s how incredibly shittt Oline recruiting was. I beat the thin at Oline drumb for 3 years on the recruiting board snd was told I didn’t know what I was talking about
