Great post DFT. My condolences on the loss of your Pops.
I remember my first game ever was Oct. 25, 1969 against Auburn. My Dad and I drove up Airline Hwy from Kenner past the Snake Farm, Bluebird's, and Hopper's. Why do I remember all of that?
I was in utter astonishment and awe of Tiger Stadium at such a young age.
My Dad passed on Oct. 28, 2006, alsmost 37 years to the day after that first game. He did see the 2003 NC, but I know he saw the 2007 NC from above :)
I think he has it fixed so the Tigers will be awesome this year!
P.S. [edit]
My Dad couldn't hear the 1959 LSU-Ole Miss game on the radio in the house, so he had to go out to the car radio. I was a baby then, and he was baby-sitting me. I was on his lap when Cannon made his run ! He said I was crying, but it was actually my first cheering for the P&G

I'll think of your dad as the kickoff to a new season arrives! Sounds like a great dad. I was at the 3-0 Alabama game in 1979 (in the rain with my first date with my girlfriend who is now my wife). Now your dad gets to watch the game with the biggest Tiger fan - God!!

I would like to propose a toast:
To my dad, to our tigers and to all SEC
teams. Here is to another kickass season.
"Pops" we love you.....
"WE ARE"...with you.

My condoences DFT.
I lost my Dad on Feb 2009. Day before Mardi Gras.
It's just not the same during football season without him now. I truly say I can feel your pain and understand.
Toast returned!

Many of the same memories with my Dad who has been gone for over 20 years. My 11 year old daughter goes to games with me and has since 4. We are loaded up and headed to Atlanta in the morning.
God Bless your Dad and all Dads

Sorry for your loss but you have to try and think of all the things that you gained by having that relationship with your dad. I had to go through the same thing with a grandpa that I was really close to. Great first post by the way. GEAUX TIGERS

Not to put a downer on this thread, but I didn't have this expereince with my dad. He was a lot less than father of the year. My love of the Tigers comes from my father-in-law who passed away a year ago. "Fortunately," he passed away before the Ole Miss debacle. I can only imagine the cursing and the screaming if he had seen that game.
However, I now have a son who is 32 years old, and we have been going to most all the games since he was four. We have been out of state a few times. I think his first game was Oregon State decades ago. I have his tickets for NC/LSU. We sometimes meet him in Lafayette since he lives in Houston and babysit the two babies while he and my daughter-in-law go to some of the games.
The tradition will continue. My granddaughter is two with her cheerleader outfit, and she has a shirt that reads "I HATE VEGGIES AND BAMA." Last year we were watching an Alabama game while at his house, and he points to the TV with her in his arms. He then tells her, "See, that's Nick Saban. He's the devil. Can you say devil?"
To many of you young fathers on this list, try to find a way to get your kid in the game with you. The older I get, the more i realize that life is about family. The relationship that my son and I have through LSU sports grows by the day. I would absolutely die if I had my grandson play for LSU. More than one time I can rememeber holding my sleeping son in the south endzone waiting for a meaningless game to end. And now, we may ride together for hours going to see Tigers play while we talk about the trivial and the important things in life.
Didn't mean for this to be so long, but the hell with it. LSU sports means a lot to me, and many, many people on this rant. It is much more than a game sometimes. It's the analysis on the radio playing before and after the game. It's the opportunity to tailgate with people I see only a few times a year. It's meeting my same "family" of season ticket holders in the south endzone, and it's the far too few moments that I get to spend with my son screaming at and with the Tigers.
For those of you on the list that want absolute perfection each game and each year, it won't happen. You should be unbeleiveably outraged at the loss, but you need to let it go for the next game with your kid. Remember this. On the day we win or lose, over a billion people in China don't even know we are playing. Surprisingly enough, the sun will rise and set the next day even though we lost. You need to do that for your kid.
To the original post guy, thanks for the chance to refresh my memory about why I like LSU.

you gave me chills. I lost my mother two years ago this week during gustav, and LSU gamedays are my get away. Once i step onto that campus and start talking football, I feel at home and i feel like my mom is looking down on me, my family, and the tigers. God bless all tiger families.
