Before any period of "Old gold" after the war and before Deitzel a previous helmet appeared to be the current yellow. Perhaps Dietzel reclaimed the tradition.
I doubt there was much consistency in uniforms until the late 50's.

Don't be so certain. An example may be on the internet, but you will have to look very hard and I haven't seen it. Why is it that everybody that I ask to produce evidence of the "old gold" can only produce that replica helmet?

This was a point I drove home last night in a thread on the Score Board. I can say with absolute certainty that the current uniform colors and design are the longest lasting in LSU history. The first uni's were grey. Regardless, the current uni's are consistently ranked among the top 5 or 10 in college write-up/polls. They are LSU football.

Looking at our colors now there is no doubt we are LSU.. the old gold as y'all call it we look like ND, Tulsa, Washington...etc...
