Becoming a "national media darling powerhouse" is something that takes years of success on the big stage. Once that label is applied, it's very difficult to remove (see Notre Dame). LSU's been one of the top 4-5 programs in the country since 2001. That's a 11 year period, which is a drop in the bucket in terms of the 100+ year history of CFB. We had fleeting moments of glory prior to that but nothing to the level we're experiencing right now. It's like Florida basketball, they won 2 titles recently but does anyone consider their program on par with Duke, Kentucky, etc? If we keep winning perceptions will change, in the meantime enjoy the ride!

1) QUIT WATCHING ESPN outside of game broadcasts. ESPN is there to make money, not support a podunk BR media market. I quit watching Gameday in 2003. You should too. ESPN's commentary is like the nightly news: I know what they will say before they say it. None of the BS people are whining about today regarding what ESPN is saying about LSU surprises me. I find it funny.

This.

People need to stop thinking of ESPN as a "News" organization...they stopped being that a LONG time ago. They are in the Entertainment Business. Don't get the two confused.

i think LSU has more support outside of the borders than you think. and the state of oklahoma is about par with the relevance with the state of louisiana, except they don't have a new orleans. yes, i understand the media infatuation with tejas, in a state 6X the size of LA. and UF, Ohio State, etc. i also don't think ESPN treats us unfairly; i think some LSU fans think they should blow us but overall i think MOST of their guys treat us fairly. Some don't. i'm not always looking for strokes from the media but some do.
as far as predictions about this years team, LSU is emerging from some off years where our OL couldn't fight it's way out of a wet paper bag and our coach was mimicked by our own fans and portrayed as beign a duffus. so, all things considered, we fare OK. if we win the SEC and the NC, they will blow us next year.

Agreed, but if we keep winning, do we want to be one of these teams? I don't.

I want LSU to earn everything...not have it handed to them because we won a title in 2003 or 2007.

I think the espn guys are all just putting on a show. Their picks and opinions are just to stir up conversation and get people talking...."you hear what herby said today?!" Even if you are pissed you're still talking about the show. So no need in getting fired up when someone picks against LSU. It's all part of the show.

Those guys are fans too, and you know they have thier loyalties. We all know herby is a buckeye. And Desmond is a Michigan man. Have to try to hide it.

You would be correct.

I fricked TWO of them. One in '94 and one in '95.

Now I'm showing my age.

PS - Didn't mean to turn this thread into an OT thread.

True. Suuccess of a smaller market like LSU's fandom garners little interest, except at the chance of failure so a big boy can move up.

Thanks.

And thanks to guys like Just Me, Doc, YA, etc and other posters who gave this a thumbs up. I know you guys know where I'm coming from. It's not often I'm serious on here, but I really meant what I said in this post.

We are witnessing history my fellow Tiger fans. We may never see another team in our lifetimes have the season LSU is having in 2011. As tiger fans, this is easily the best team we may ever witness as well. (Again, I stress SEASON, and TEAM with two separate and distinct meanings).

ENJOY THIS! Don't let morons in the media distract you from this.
