didnt Spears mostly play fullback that year?
I think it was TE, but he played some DE too, not a ton but played a decent amount on D by the end of the year.

I remember he had some kind of pass breakup/near interception way in the secondary it seemed against Illinois. It was weird due to how out of place he was.

BTW the 2001 team at the end of the year IMO would have beaten Miami!!!!!
Really? A 5-3 LSU team, who had to draw straws to go to the SECCG. Gonna beat 12-0 National Champs Miami? Yeah PJ..go back to giving Saban his Toe massage.

What are you talking about? You make it seem like we got there like OU did over Texas this year or something. We won the clear tiebreaker with Auburn and went.
I don't necessarily think we would have beat Miami, but you act like the team somehow didn't deserve to go to Atlanta, which they more than proved that they did.

The corners that Saban inherited were weak and it showed that entire year.
By 2001, Saban had signed 2 of his own recruiting classes. Why didn't he get a Patrick Peterson like Miles did? Your excuses are becoming anorexic.

At the end of THAT year LSU would have given Miami the BEST game they had all year!!!

You don't deserve to be an LSU fan!!! I guess you think Saban did NOTHING at LSU!!!!

Because you can't just inherit a losing program and expect to be able to pluck top notch recruits out of other states. When Saban arrived the best he could hope to do was retain the top talent from Louisiana better than the previous staff could, and if Louisiana did not produce it, then we weren't getting it. LSU did not even have a semblance of recruiting prowess in other states during the DiNardo regime, so it took Saban a little while to get the ball rolling. Once we began winning, the program began to sell itself. Besides, I don't know what one corner the caliber of Peterson would have accomplished when the rest of the secondary was not up to par... we saw that this year.
I don't even know why I wasted time responding to such a stupid question.

Not True PJ GUMP, here it is:
Saban's Big Rebuilding Job:
"Uh...Jarvis, Bradie, Trev, Ryan, Howard...gather 'round"
"It's OK to Tackle again, just like before Tepper was here......that's all"

I don't either. You have no fricking clue what went on at LSU then or now, so put away your bag of excuses.

that defense played like fricking mad men.
If by mad men you mean played like chickens with their heads cut off then I agree. That was one of the worst unit of DB's of the recent era.
UT, FLA absolutely torched us.
UK Rolled up yards on us and thank God for our own offense.
Arkansas took us to the offensive wire.
Illinois still hung 34 meaningless points on us.
Great LB corp and also a very average front 4 with J Green, H Green, Lavalais as a soph, and Kipps.
2002 was better, for the most part. Statistically, they were far beyond '01.

If you let your blind hate for Saban prevent you from admitting he rose LSU football up from the ashes you are a fricking moron.

Fun year. We were still learning how to win and trying to change the culture.
The cupboard was not bare but we were thin.
Tennessee was without question more talented than us that year. May have been Krispy's most talented team there.
But we took them in the SECCG and really had them on the ropes and let them off in Knoxville.
Now the Ole Miss game was disappointing. Rohan wasn't ready to play and Little Nicky's defensive game plan wasn't his best that night.
But luckily the stars alingned for us to make the SECCG just like they aligned for us to make the BCS title game in 2007.
